If nothing else it shows the ambition that the club can now wear on its sleeve and so makes us a little bit more attractive to players who do talk to us

gazzer, loyal royal We're after a left back, a centre half and a striker, possibly a winger.

My source didn't tell me about bridge last night, but we had enquired about the availability of a certain Ryan Bertrand

Makes sense - I know this has been discussed elsewhere but I honestly thought he was out POTS rather than Gylfi that year*

*no disrespect to Sigurdsson of course, but he didn't play the full season

Sounds very much like Reading are in a strong position to make some significant moves, be it in this window or the next one.

we are. I'd expect a few loan to perms today.

The interesting thing my source said was, the only outs will be as part of swap deals. hmmmmmm

and expect a premier league defender signed on loan as cover next week

well, that's one ticked off the list

Surprised no-one's linked us with Wayne yet this summer. I would presume there is still interest there....

How did he end up in the Championship? Surely any (including us) bottom-half PL teams would have taken him?

My thoughts exactly - why would he choose Brighton over a prem club? :|

He has a fair bit of baggage.

He used to work where I used to work in Winchester before he broke into the Saints 1st team.

He er... Liked a tipple.

Perhaps City weren't prepared to let him go to another PL club....

I think you will notice that the top sides enjoy loaning their players to other teams that can take points from their rivals, man utd have be doing it for years.

I doubt Reading would be ever interested in Bridge as he has too much baggage and his best days are behind him.

McDermott wants players who want to play for Reading. Bridge rejected us for Sunderland in January so Brian is no longer interested. HTH

And Shorey, quite clearly, wanted to get away as fast as he could from us - so why even consider him?

Very happy this hasn't materialised, past his prime and on high wages for what he offers.

Because people can learn from their mistakes and Shorey may well regret leaving Reading, particularly the manner of his doing so if the rumours were correct. It was several years ago and he may well now want to come back and play for the club where he had his best time.

Personally I'd rather not have him back, but I trust Brian, especially as he's always talking about the right personalities, not just skills.
