Friday's Legacy Van Persie deal agreed with United - http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Featu ... ersie.aspx and BBC

Good signing for United. Although RVP had a terrible Euro's - outshone by Torres who hardly played. 8)

Good deal for Arsenal too

At 29 and only 1 full season behind him and 1 year left on contract, £24m is a good price.

Arsenal just need to buy that defender ad they'll be ok

you gotta ask what kind of people are running the club where for the second successive year your best players are sold right before the season starts.

A sh*t load of money for an injury prone 29 year old who until 1 year ago averaged 10 goals a season

As with most moves in football, if he stays injury free and hits good form then all hail lord red nose, if he gets an injury or Hernandez/weel beck hits form and keeps him on the bench then lol @ Utd what a bad signing etc

Arsene sells at the perfect time again...

But they will do nothing with the money and finish 4th again. At least they are financially stable!

Haven't they spent more than anyone else in the premier league so far this summer?

I did :| at my own comment after posting, forgot they have made a few signings this year. But the principle applies to the selling of former stars, and I can't see them getting anywhere near to challenging for the title.

Based on what?
The arrival of goalmachine Podolski, and the French top scorer Giroud?
I think you might have to reconsider.

Yeah. People keep thinking that just because they play pretty football, they'll be in the top 4. They've been on a slide for years, in fact I'm astounded that Wenger has been tolerated for so long.

Van Persie has failed his medical. The doctors say his back is crocked from carrying the Arsenal team last season

Victor Meldrew
soggy biscuit Jack Rodwell joins Man City for an undisclosed fee

A player of the "one day he will be a star" category akin to jack Wilshere.
Both have had serious injury problems that mean the jury is still out for both of them IMHO.
Interestingly Everton did pretty well last season with him hardly playing so it is not a player that they will miss much and now they can afford to hang on to Baines and the big hair boy who are very important to their side.

I'm still not convinced by Rodwell. He seems to float around a little too much without having much impact on the game. Technically and physically a good player, but I've not seen him really do a lot with it yet. I hope he gets games at City though, and it doesn't just hold him back as we've seen happen to Milner and Johnson.

RVP good business for Utd: worst case scenario if he gets injured they can afford a £24m mistake. Best case he'll score a shedload and has weakened a rival.

Even if Arsenal sign a replacement for RVP, which I assume they will...I am astonished that they have STILL not signed a big name centre half. Still their achilles heel I feel.

Looks that way on the face of it but everyone knew he was up for sale; once his departure was deemed inevitable he didn't feature in Arsenal's plans for the season ahead (or in pre-season?) - Arsenal bought their replacement(s) very early and got a better deal on RVP than they might otherwise have achieved by holding out until the final week.

If Podolski and Arsenal have a decent season - it'll be a shrewd move from Wenger and the club. If they don't - the board and Kroenke will be in for some sh1t.

Could yet lose Alex Song to Barcelona too

Alex Song I would be lying if I said there was no interest, Barcelona are the best team in the world.

 Wenger must be tearing his hair out every summer with that lot!

Walcott into his last year and refusing to sign a new deal

Think Arsenal have done the right thing. Let's face it RVP has always been a good player but he's never set the world alight until last season. Refusing to sign a new contract and with 1 year to go £20+m is a good price. The arrival of Podolski, Giroud and Cazorla have made Arsenal a stronger side personnel-wise.

The only worry I have for them now is the mental side of their game. Who will be their skipper for next season? Off the top of my head the only decent choice would be Vermaelan, who doesn't exactly have a wonderful injury record. Plus you need more than one man to be able to lead your team. Potentially they could just end up playing as a bunch of individuals with nobody to rally the troops when the chips are down.

As for RVP and United? Well time will tell as to whether this move will be a success. Potentially it could be fantastic and it will be wonderful to see Tevez and Aguero v RVP and Rooney this season. Will Rooney and RVP be able to work in the same side? I have my doubts but I can never doubt the opinion of Fergie, as he's not got too many wrong before.
