TheSiege
Have you forgotten his whole career as a striker - you know, the guy who puts the ball in the net! Stats please!

You are right of course. 100 + goals in the premier league is poor.

TheSiege,

I'm not one to disagree with you for a striker not scoring goals. I still don't understand the stupidity of some fans who stuck by Mr Zero for almost half a season when he scored Zero goals from open play. He then turned good, and that's fine. Score goals and youve earned your money as a striker. Don't and you haven't. Especially in a one striker system.

But

If he's good enough for The Brian, he's good enough for me. He does other stuff and I certainly remember him getting in the way of our defence when we played villa allowing carew(?) to score. He's big and gets in the way. Even Mr Zero turned out good for us thanks to Brian so I trust his judgement.

TheSiege His best performances were in his early days at Norwich.

Really?

TheSiege That is if your 100 goals is correct!

No, I made it up.

TheSiege I also note that you have serially failed to answer the basic question

I don't have to answer anything.

My first post alluded to one of the best England games I've seen in the last twenty years or so, in which I believe Emile definitely earned his cap. You reckon he shouldn't have even had one cap.

I think you'll find he never played for Norwich. Perhaps you might like to look here for a list of his clubs over the years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emile_Heskey. You should check your facts before posting.

A quick search on google brought up this list of premier league goalscorers that you might take a look at.

TheSiege Correct - Leicester not Norwich. A lot of my lifetime has been attuned to looking at the situations surrounding decent strikers and - of course, Heskey was never one of those. I admit my mistake but - who gives a sh*t! Crap from Norwich may be wrong but crap from Leicester is little different. Which bit do you not understand? Heskey earned vast quantities of money for a/ Being a footballer. and B/ Being a scorer of goals. If you look at his response to the vast quantity of money he acquired you will realise he was a con-artist! Imagine Usain Bolt doing the 100 metres in 13 secondes - None of us would know his name. Heskey is lucky, he is a serial failure and there are still morons who will make his case despite reality.

You just don't get it? Heskey isn't a goalscorer. He serves a very different purpose. He wins headers (often from goal kicks), holds the ball up and brings other players around him into the attack. A selfless player who gets massively criticized merely for doing his job. Teams that have had success with Heskey in the past have played to his strengths. You don't score that many Premier League goals, or get that many England caps, by being an awful player.

People who have a little more depth of understanding, appreciate why Heskey has been valued by some of the best managers around and praised by some of the best strikers in the business. People who learn their football through tv highlights and fantasy football, don't understand anything other than goals. You won't convince them, because they aren't capable of appreciating the fuller game. But take solace in the fact that on the one side is you and a long list of professionals and experts, and on the other is this lonely sphincter-damaged autistic who sounds like an off-the-rails prozac mum the world is edging away from.

It's easy to to work out who is right.

W-w-w-w-what!?

Are you trying to prove the 62 England caps Emily Heskey is better than 0 Caps Jason Roberts.

Thanks for clearing that one up.

Not trying to "prove" anything. Just posting the facts. Use them any way you oxf*rd like including wiping your arse.

Heskey clearly a better goal-scorer than Roberts over his career. Surprised that Roberts' assists are about 3 times Heskey's though.

So using your "major contribution" method would likely put Roberts on top?

First I find those assist stats very suspect, feel sure Heskey has done better than that. I remember Heskey
and Owen demolishing Russia at Wembley, for example, and seem to remember Heskey doing lots of
damage in other games. Maybe he causes turmoil/takes away defenders but doesn't always get the second-last touch.

But in terms of the stats

276 Minutes per RECORDED MC Heskey (3 games)
246 Minutes per RECORDED MC Roberts (2.66 games)

But why are you posting these facts? Who asked for a pointless comparison between Heskey & Roberts in any case?

I wouldn't waste the printing paper to wipe my arse with them xx

Like they say, Carry on Snowball. I quite like the stats you and Rouge provide. I find them enlightening taking into accounts a number of aspects.

I don't think it's really fair to single out Heskey as a striker that doesn't score goals. The thing about Emile was you knew he was in the side for his presence. He scored headers, tap ins, he didn't score too many one on ones. You know what you're getting when you sign him. It's the total goal output addition he brings (or at least used to) rather than his individual contribution. After all, and I am going back donkeys here (before I even was watching RFC) didn't a number of you used to say Dean Horrix's (RIP, far too young :( ) goal return was poor but he made lots for Trevor Senior? There are not many striker combinations where both strikers are goalscorers.
