MmmMonsterMunch Cast you mind back to this time last year....

We'd just lost the play-off final, sold Mills, sold Long & the cloth cutting was in full swing.

DESPITE all that we went on to miraculously win the league, we've not had to sell any players to balance the books & have signed some fcuking good players. We are in the PL FFS - way beyond even the most optimistic RFC fan's expectation!!

Some people need to stop moaning & get a fcuking grip on reality seriously.

I wouldn't even say I am a happy clapper fan far from it but fcuk me some people are never bloody happy! I think it's encouraging that the new owners actually want to secure a long term future for the club & not spunk money on players they can't afford.

This is the Premiership the big boys league to compete you have to spend and with Anton brainwashed by Madejski we are in big trouble

And what if we still get relegated? Just have loads of players on expensive contracts that we can't offload and be fcuked for years after? Money does not guarantee success I'm afraid. We are not exactly fashionable so would have to fork out ridiculous sign on fees & wages to attract 'sexy' players.

Are you new to football or a six year old Madejski kid ?

If football was that simple Man City and Chelsea would spend a fiver a year on players

Obviously, signing someone today would've been preferable, but there must be reasons why we haven't. Nothing can be changed now, IN BRIAN WE TRUST.

cmonurz Given most of this board consider Huddersfield's Rhodes a waste of time it's bizarre Morisson, whose career in the English league extends not past Huddersfield, might be considered adequate cover.

Not sure any consider Rhodes a 'waste of time'...just that he's not worth the £8m Blackburn could eventually pay.

You won't find anyone on here trying to claim Morrison is worth that much either btw

Hampshire Royal What happened when £1 million Lita got injured? He had to be replaced by bargain basement Doyle.

That was in the championship. We haven't got anyone who can step up to the level required.

I would have loved us to have signed someone else but in all honesty Jordan Rhodes or Wilfred Zaha wouldn't have guaranteed us premiership survival. Also, there are still some good unattached players that we could potentially sign if BM feels they are a good fit for the club. Spending £12m like Southampton have done guarantees jack sh*t.

Football is actually very simple. Unfortunately the money just totally ruins it. Stoke have wasted so much money on shit buys FTR. It won't be long before that shit hits the fan - Coates is already saying they now need to sell in order to buy.

Why are you a Reading fan if all you care about is being able to spend loads of money? Surely you've picked the wrong team?!

MmmMonsterMunch This thread is embarrassing. People foaming at the mouth because we've not oxf*rd £10m today just to get on SSN. The mind boggles. Fcuk off to Chelsea or Citeh if you don't like it.

What do people actually expect?! Genuinely want to know.

I expect that management and fans alike will realise that a bench of Tabb, Hunt, Church, Kanu is not going to win you Premier League survival but with a couple of shrewd additional purchases it could look and perform a whole lot different.

Mind you, don't forget Roberts and Kebe be like new signings!!

Rather strange that you ask me if I'm new to football. Au contraire - I stood in p1ss at Elm Park so forgive me for being quite happy at the current situation.

I like the way Reading do it. They earn it & whatever success they get tastes all the better for it (IMO). Football is about more than money for most fans you would hope.

I love this club too but to me and others it's bleeding obvious we do not have the quality or game changers and 07/08 seems to be forgotten about already.

How d'you work that one out?

Our transfer activity this window has been massively more substantial than anything seen before at this club.

Lessons learned.

This season doesn't in any way compare with 07-08.

A lot of the 07-08 debacle was unfortunately down to Coppell. Coupled with players who'd had a sniff of the big time & wanted away. We're not in that situation now. Could be an issue next season perhaps but I think BM is more shrewd than that.

our promoted team isn't as good though - that's the point - we're starting from further back.

If you are happy with the quality of players that are sat on the bench then great, we have done well.

yes it would have been good to add to the squad today but we haven't so lets move on. i am confident this team has enough to stay up. Brian has shown that he can get the best out of players and if he can do that again this season we should be fine. i think Alfie could be the key to our season and if he can step up, i dont think goals will a be an issue for us.

come on do some of you really think signing Zaha was going to be the difference between survival and relegation. he scored less goals than Church (our 5th choice) last season and got the same amount of assists as HRK. yes he has good potential but im not that bothered about missing out on him.

But the team spirit is the best it's ever been no?

Without sounding completely ghey don't underestimate that.
