ManchesterRoyals If we signed him we would all be buzzing about it, hes got a point to prove i think he will do the business for the hammers this season, i would have taken him here in a flash

I'd be wondering why we've brought in an enormous lump on stupid wages, and questing which retard Anton has replaced Hammond with.

TheSiege
Jimbo
TheSiege Fact - we won the Championship with a defence that conceded little and an attack that scored little! The goals that we got came from all over the field. We are now defending against far better forwards and have age problems at the back! Our strikeforce is now playing against a much better class of defender but, also, we have the ball far less often! The Pog is a good recruit but, even at Fulham, did not follow up his brilliant start with them! He is not, at a high level, a guaranteed one goal in two games player! Why do some people have problems with reality?

Name one guaranteed one goal in two games premier league striker that we could afford. In fact, name one that anyone outside the top three could afford.
I believe Andy carroll scored 4 prem goals last season. Just what we need.

And since when did we have age problems at the back?

Notice you didn't try to oppose the facts! And we have a defensive age problem on the left-hand side !

You made the assertion pal, you responsibility to back it up with evidence, not someone elses to provide evidence to shoot down your utter spurious claim.

That's like saying "God's real, prove I'm wrong". No mate, you prove you're right.

You can't be serious, Ian.

Andy Carroll is a top-class striker and WHU will be at least mid-table now, probably top half.

He'll get at least a dozen goals and his presence will create a lot more

He's had one good PL season. He'd be in direct competition with Pogrebnyak and Roberts, rather than complimenting Pogrebnyak and he'd be on ridiculous wages. He doesn't fit, and his signing would be a worrying departure from how the club is run.

I'd rather have Pog. Caroll is great with his head, but I'm not convinced he will score many goals with his feet (as was the case at Liverpool). He is suited to a big Sam style hoofball team, not to us, in my opinion.

And Ian's right, he probably would be on big wages.

1.8 million loan fee, plus 80k a week wages.

on the plus side, they have the option to buy him for 18 million in the summer

lol

It's not an outlay i'd like to see RFC make, but as a footballer he'd be a great acquisition.

Not for one second saying we should have signed him, even if we could have afforded him

but he is FAR more than "a big lump" (a phrase usually equated with being next to useless)

he is a class striker and, barring injury, will soon be up front for England on a regular basis

He brought great energy and purpose to the WHU side.

Pog scored 6 goals for Fulham in 12 games last season, which was his first season in the Prem.
Carroll scored 9 goals in 47 games (18 as sub) last season, which was not his first season in the Prem.

I think we've got the better deal.

Agree. Pog probably didn't cost a huge amount more than this alleged loan fee in signing on fees, and is probably costing less than half in wages.

Carroll for a season is not twice the quality of Pog. If we didn't have Pog and Roberts, he'd be a good player to bring in, but way to expensive to be worth bringing in. Already having spent money on Pog and paying him and Roberts wages, it would be a criminal waste of resources.

I wonder if there's ever been a club paying one guy more than double what the 2nd highest earner gets.

And if so, what that did to the team spirit.

He plays for LA Galaxy. They won the Cup last season, so right now are the top club in the States. Donovan is the top US player with him, and there are some other Brits & Irish as well....

Carroll now out for 6 weeks with his hamstring injury.

With his wages at £90K per week and the loan fee of £1.5M, I make that an outlay by West Ham of £2,130,000 (Plus NI) for 68 minutes of pitch time, or £31,323 per minute...........

But 3 points he helped to win might well keep them up. 2 Mill would be cheap for that
