From the limited amount of what I've seen of McCarthy I like him but he needs to be playing, now pretty much because for the first time in a while England have got 4 or 5 young keepers that actually look half decent. If he doesn't get regular football he could be another Jamie Ashdown and just ruin his career by sitting around too long. When I first saw Ashdown play I thought the exact same as I do about McCarthy, he *could* be an England keeper. Ashdown made a horrendous career choice and has wasted the potential that he had at a young age, McCarthy desperately needs to not do the same.

This is exactly it.

I'm not suggesting Federici be dropped for Taylor - I'm saying we have a quality England under-21 keeper on the bench who is only going to get better if he plays games.

Are we all agreed that if he costs us a goal on Sunday he should be shot at birth? Or dropped?

i dont think brian will drop feds after 3 bad games...this will fold out like always, people on here will bitch and moan about a player and whenever the player in question makes up for his mistakes tenfold somewhere down the line of the season everyone will say how they always believed in him. it never fails.

Ideal The thing is if we change now, there's not so much pressure on McCarthy.
However if Federici keeps leaking goals and we get labeled with "a goalkeeping problem", and then change some time in November, McCarthy will be under a lot of pressure to "solve the goalkeeping crisis", I'd rather we just changed now.

i dont think that is the case, or makes sense

Now that is what I call a REAL goalkeeping error.

There are a few of us with integrity who maintain that we thought they were shite when they were shite and when they've sorted themselves out and improved are worthy of us recognising that and then praising them for it.

Well looks like those that wanted McCarthy have their way (whether by injury or Fed dropped is not clear yet) so let's hope all those that have been howling for Fed to be dropped are not made to look silly by the end of the day.

Personally I think McCarthy has great potential...but it is a big game for him today.

McCarthy - dropped a clanger that went unpunished. Couple of good saves and not much chance with any of the goals.

Beats dropping 3 clangers that get punished, even if it wasn't hugely inspiring. And that is one of the best attacks in the PL.

Not really, pushed Defoe too wide to get a shot off. Still, better than diving over the ball and letting it go into your own net isn't it.

Would be nice if his kicks had made it past the halfway line or stayed on the pitch more often.
