Surely no-one argues that McAnuff has IMPROVED this season?

For me this has been his most productive season and he has been far more committed.

Whether that is simple maturing or him peaking, or the Captaincy, or a word in his ear, I don't know.

I didn't slam his Captaincy, but he wouldn't have been my first choice,
but surely, without any doubt he has been a massive success, not
just in "overall" terms but in the number of come-backs we've made, our never-say-die attitude.

I'd agree that, like everyone in the side (bar Church, Federici and Kebe probably) he's got better as the seasons gone on. I don't think that meant he wasn't the best man for the job as captain from day 1 though.

Remember how poor the likes of Legiertwood, Harte, Pearce (to a lesser extent) and Karacan were back in the Autumn. Their personal levels of performance have come on massively since then.

Two games into the new campaign and I think the captain's looking splendidly solid. His awareness has only gone up, as has his positioning and creativity. Looks great on both sides of the ball, well in command when bolstering the back line and stopping counter-attacks. Thought our brightest moments today often began with him. Pace is probably above average even here, control near that. Only fear is his reluctance to send in a cross from the left, bringing the ball instead to his preferred right. Has often looked great handling the ball across the top of the box, but this tendency will likely be exploited in the top flight.

...thoughts?

He can't cross with his left that is why he is reluctant

He tore shreds off Ivanovic. I think he's about as consistent and reliable as you'll find in a winger and will do fine this season. He won't create huge numbers of goals, but he'll be solid in defence, involved in most of our best play and pop up to threaten the opposition goal fairly regularly.

A great player who perhaps doesn't get the credit he deserves because his contribution is often more subtle than our other wingers. That life I guess - Kebe does f/ck all the whole game but scores a goal and get's more recognition than Jobi who in the same game was a pivotal team player the whole match. Love 'em both, but not sure why one is thought better than the other. Different players, different manner of contribution - but at this level it's the Jobi's who will keep us in games. Still has my full support.

I can take it. 'Trouble' is my middle name. Actually, James is my middle name but that means 'trouble' in Hebrew. Actually it means 'sperm on face'. But that translates to trouble in my book. So yeah, I can take it. Actually I guess this sounds like I'm saying I can take sperm on my face which is not really the point I was hoping to make. Not one on a football forum anyway. But yeah, bring it on.

McAnuff for the rest of the season.

Pearce to take over next season, providing he's made the step up.

Why is it ALWAYS Jobi getting it in the neck?!

FFS boring.

Besides - hasn't he provided the most assists so far this season?

Agreed. McAnuff has been good. Had a poor match against West Brom but that's it. He's a good player and a good ambassador for RFC.

McAnuff - 3 + 1 deflected shot put in by Hunt, + 1 won a fk we scored direct from. And he's hit the post.
McCleary - 1 + 1 won a penalty.
ALF - 1 And he's scored a pen.

And he was still our best player in that game to be honest

I like McAnuff, still think he's our best option for the left wing too.

What I hate is managers signing players then instantly making them captain. They need to earn the right to become captain, not just waltz in and expect to wear the armband.

TheSiege I do not doubt BMcD's decision on picking Jobi from our 25 but, with the way the team is playing - particularly when trying to keep a lead, I wonder whether we should be looking at a potential captain in the January Window? Other threads are interested in players who may come or leave in January but, I wonder whether we need a real out-and-out General to keep us up. He would need to be Prem quality but, as an aside, we would not have a problem playing Kebe amd McCleary at the same time. A Captain ought to be mostly ever-present and I'm not sure that any of our wingers are in that category.

Fuck off pcunt... McAnuff is a baus
