Back from the game/the PC - Fulham (H)

by bassavage » 27 Oct 2012 17:11

Crazy.

For an hour I thought we were good, held our own and looked fairly comfortable against a Fulham side that didn't do too much. However, the substitution of Ruiz turned the game on its head. They were completely in control and we looked scared in all honesty. The second was coming and sure enough it did. We didn't give up and pegged one back and our tails should have been up but instead we let them have another. Great last 5 minutes and could have won it at the end.

After 80 minutes would I have taken a point? Most definitely. But we can't afford to keep throwing games away, especially at home.

Is it just me or with pretty much every goal we've conceded recently can Cummings do better? He was the one closing down Ruiz for the 1st today (might be being a tad harsh, it was a great finish), lost Baird for the 2nd and got sucked to the ball and left Berbatov free for the third. Also thought he could have done better with Sterling's last week, Routledge's against Swansea and perhaps Ba's 1st at home to Newcastle (again top finish).

Also for anyone who thinks McDermott should go. Get real. All we need to do this season is finish 4th bottom. If we finish 4th bottom this season everyone would say he's a genius. At the moment we are 3rd bottom. So we are 1 place below where we want to be with 30 games of the season still to go. Lets put it into context, we're not aiming to finish 10th or anything, we're picking up points fairly consistently now. I know we haven't won yet but I truly believe we win one and we will certainly start picking up more. Now isn't the time to start getting on the teams back, now is the time to will them on and what a massive result 3 points at Loftus Road would be next week.

just home, feeling desperately sorry for the Pog, he seems like a fish out of water playing our direct system, the few times he got the ball to his feet he did well laying it off , and he had a hand in our first goal.
What has happened to the Jimmy Kebe of a few seasons back that used to skin his full back?..

I agree with this post on the whole. We looked good for 60 minutes and the last 5. During the other 25 minutes we looked Championship. The difference is that Fulham had game changers. We don't - or at least not to the extent that they do and certainly with not as much class and skill (especially in the centre of the park). We showed them too much respect at times and I agree with your comment about us looking scared.

As for Brian staying as manager, at this moment I agree entirely that he should still be manager. But if we haven't had at least one win next month then he may have to go. Pointless discussing any more until we've played those four six pointers.

As me and my mate were saying earlier though, if Brian really got all the players he wanted as he so frequently said then I would question his judgment as a Premiership manager slightly (but I would love to be proved wrong!). Look at the players Fulham got - a team we beat for the signing of Pog because WE could offer higher wages. We had the chance to sign other/more players and for various reasons we didn't. I hope that doesn't come back to bite. Ultimately though I would rather the slump at this time of the season than in the second half.

First half I would have given all the players at least a 7. Pog should have buried that header though. Great chance. Second half was a different story though. Special mention must go to the much maligned Tabb, who I thought held his own today, especially first half. And I thought Shorey was a contender for MOTM. Not sure about the Pog/Roberts combo.

What has paenned to the Jimmy Kebe of a few seasons back that used to skin his full back?..

, I watched him during the pre match warm up and he never managed to get his hands as low as the pitch when all the others were putting their palms on it. Also in the high kick routine Jimmy hardly got his foot above his waist. Is he still injured? if so why put him in the squad?

Brilliant first half. We were full of running, closed them down at every opportunity, and we used the wings. Superb. 1-0. Happy as!

Second half. WTF?

We stood off them and decided to let them have possession. We weren't looking for the pass or using the wings. It was the complete reverse, and low and behold, we were 3-2 down before we knew it, and it looked like it was coming, even at 1-0. I kept looking over at Brian, and he was yelling instructions to the defence and waving his arms to signal direct long balls. And yes, at the death we somehow managed to save a point, but why the change in tactics? It cost us a win! The fact we got a point, and an undeserved point for that second half showing, perhaps acts as a stay of execution for the manager who would have been facing even more questions come the final whistle.

They said on the radio that that is four games now we have lead and thrown the win away. It's not good enough.

We don't know our best side.
We don't get our tactics right.

Kebe is a complete waste of space if he's not running at people. All he kept doing was cut in, hold up play and pass back or inside. Well anyone can do that! Take players on, beat your man and get the ball in the box. That's what McCleary was doing at the start of the season, and that's why I favour him coming back in over Kebe.

McAnuff was decent, but bringing him into the middle does not work. Get Guthrie on, and if feel the need to replace McAnuff, bring a like for like winger on!

Overall, 4-4-2 has to stay. Long ball has to go, and we need to keep the high energy closing down going for 90 minutes, as we did last season.

That said, we still wont stay up this season, not without massive investment in the Jan window, and we wont get that.

Absolutely cheesed off tonight. Can't bloody wait to freeze my bollocks off on Tuesday night and get outclassed by the Arsenal kids.

Oh dear. Second half was as poor as Tottenham, we barely had a kick of the ball for 30 minutes. Pretty abject really. And so very unenjoyable to watch. The worst 3-3 I have ever seen.

What on earth has Pearce done to fall behind the desperately poor Mariappa and Gorkss? Utter nonsense that is. Defensively we are excrutiating to watch, I think that the opposition are about to score score every time the ball comes into our half. Luckily Fulham were as poor at the back in those last 5 minutes as we were in the previous 85.

We have signed so very badly. Gunter doesn't get in the team, Guthrie doesn't get in the team. Gunter has been so bad that Shaun Cummings gets selected ahead of him. ALARM BELLS! How much have TSI really bothered investing?

The best thing about today was Chris Baird stacking it on the perimeter track after scoring  . Even lying flat on his back he's probably better than Mariappa and Gorkss :|

Brilliant point about Guthrie and Gunter. I am sick of both of them to be fair and am delighted neither of them played. McCleary has been immense, however. I also feel as if Shorey looks a lot more settled.

Overall it was too relatively poor sides who merely cancelled each other out. You have to admire our spirit for coming back from 2-1 down. Our heads never dropped and it's very easy to moan etc.

Not sure whether to be annoyed or happy. We need to learn to keep the ball a bit more & defend better or we're going down. I can't fault the forwards too much but we are leaking goals like a sieve.

The spirit is obviously there to come back twice but when Fulham equalised, we completely crumbled & you knew it was a matter of time before they scored again. Only at 2-1 down did we then wake up a bit.

Pog / Roberts didn't look great to me as a partnership either. Thought McAnuff & Kebe were very good today although I'd like to see Kebe take on his man a bit more. Tabb & Legs did their jobs reasonably well but as per usual the opposition saw far too much of the ball.

That said, if we can average 1 point per game from now until Jan, we won't be cut adrift & hopefully BM will get some funds. Onwards & upwards.

Leigertwood so much better, fantastic goal

Glad to see Roberts back in

Pog lumbersome, looks like Gunnarsson when he runs. Not good enough in the air

Subs far too late

Everything I want to say I just know will get said and like the team for a large part of this season I can't be bothered.

Don't always agree with Floyd but today he has it spot on in line with my thoughts.

We are now in a situation where we need to win a third of our remaining games. It just ain't gonna happen.

Brian and his decisions taking us far as we can go?

Whilst he is still free and a transfer window looming, although it pains me to say it is it now time to call for the services of Rednapp before QPR get there before us. Something needs to happen and I fear it will be a new manager before results change.

TSI need to start showing some muscle.

Reading manager Brian McDermott: "At 3-2 my weekend was absolutely miserable, but at 3-3 we were trying to kick on and win. It was a strange game - that's the fourth time we've taken the lead in this league and we need to finish the job off.

"All we can do is talk about the game and playing our football, doing what we have to do and if we do that the win will come.

"We try to win games and that's what we've done here for two or three years. The players derserve an awful lot of respect for getting back into that."

No point in changing if a new manager isn't backed with £. None whatsoever.
