So, we were prepared to loan him to Forest then...

They tried to get him on loan last season when he was with Newcastle.

Something that I thought was uncorroborated but is now on the latest Sky Sports article. If he turned them down to stay and fight for a place, great, but if we were willing to let him so out on loan so soon that doesn't bode well.

Danny Guthrie holds talks with Brian McDermott over Reading axe

The summer signing midfielder was not selected by boss Brian McDermott for last weekend's 3-3 draw with Fulham and is now not certain to be involved in Sunday's Premier League basement battle at Queens Park Rangers.

Guthrie has discussed the subject with his manager but has also reportedly snubbed a loan move to Nottingham Forest, as he remains fully committed to Reading.

He said in the Daily Mirror: "I spoke to the manager and he had his reasons for not picking me and that remains between us - there was no bust-up.

"It is frustrating, because I want to help this team. I just have to work hard for now and make sure I am ready and fully prepared when I am needed."

This is looking more and more like a 2007/08 Coppellesque implosion of idiocy. We appear to make up for being very well run most of the time, by spectacularly falling apart every few seasons. :|

It is noticeable that Guthrie has not made any comments on Twitter for a number of weeks, just some re-tweets, not even family comments so perhaps he's keeping all his thoughts to himself. Although, the thing I did find bizarre is that he has 134,000 followers, 50,000 more than Jason 'i'm on 606' Roberts. Kind of makes you wonder who's following him!!!

I really dont rate Guthrie. I would rather have Mcanuff playing just off the striker(s), with Robson Kanu on the left and Kebe on the right, and Ledge holding in midfield.

Except Kebe is oxf*rd terrible, whilst McCleary actually has an end product.

you make a fair point, but I think we can all agree that on his day, Kebe is simply unplayable. hes just so inconsistent. I have been impressed by McCleary, though.

i think the stats prove that mcleary has made more crosses(30 odd), and more of them have reached one of our players(4)
and kebe has made 14, and 1 has reached a player
is still take kebe every time, but then thats because im in love with him

Kebe has a tendency to decide it's time to cross and then hit it at the angle he thinks would be best if it reached the box, not bothered in the slightest that there's a defender standing directly infront of him right in the path he wants to kick.

Still, he does what he wants.

He's seemed a bit more hesitant to really open up and take players on this season. Possibly after giving the ball away when trying to that resulted in that goal a few games back.

also much more likely to cut back inside and play it back to teh FB, or inside to the edge of teh box, thus not be called a cross, both things more likely to retain possession and resulting a decent chance imo
think kebe is out best ball retainer. which is one of our problems, but also conversely what people on here moan at him the most for

Re: Guthrie

I was impressed with him recently in his decision making. When he's being channelled down the wing, with another player in attendence to counter the cut inside and their close enough that he's not in space, but far enough away that they can react to a change of pace... he frequently rolls the ball back to give us time to bring the whole team forward, retain possession and go elsewhere.

Only problem is we then often don't have any guile anywhere else, tend to hoof it and have also given them time to get back into shape.
