I'd have him back in a heartbeat. Never griped or moaned, always played his heart out even when he knew he was going onto bigger things, was absolutely pivotal to our most successful era and most importantly can definitely still cut it in the Premiership.

He's never been the same since that knee injury against Hartlepool.

Still do a job, though

We have never found an adequate replacement for Sidwell, despite many efforts. I'd have him back in a shot. In the Sky preview to the Reading v Fulham match he said something like "Everybody knows I played my best football during my time at Reading." It is clear he still thinks highly of Reading. If there is any chance of getting him, we should go for it.

If we're after someone who passes the ball the sideways, runs a bit and then passes it sideways again I understand Ray Wilkins is up for a job right now.

You obviously missed his forward pass to Berbatov for his goal against us and Sidwell's goal at the weekend.

You seem to be confusing Sidwell with Harper. :|

I suspect CC was actually making oblique reference to Harper who had already been mentioned on the thread.

tbf his leaving was the difference in us going down in 06/07

so a return to keep us up in 12/13 would be perfect

Sidwell was over-rated 5 years ago - and has done very little at several other clubs since - what can he really do to improve Reading FC now?
I do hope he's learnt to shoot straight in those 5 years though.

Who would you rather have through on goal? McAnuff, Tabb or Sidwell?

Can we have Sidwell back please Father Christmas? And if you could also do Arshevin as like a 2 for 1 deal?

Sidwell and Harper were the best CM partnership this club has ever had. Both could do box to box, weighed in with valuable goals and were simply the best. Just how good can be seen by how Harper's form dropped after Sidders left. I would have Sidders back yesterday.

/\ Good post. For all those who thought Sidwell was overrated, take a quick look back at the highlights DVD during our first season in the prem, where he features heavily with both goals and assists. This club has never adequately replaced him - in fact, Sdiwell is surely one of standout representations of everything this club is about.

He'd never come back all the time we're threatened with relegation. He's probably on 30k+ a week plus appearance fees, and if he stays at Fulham and runs his contract down at least he's in the Premier League shop window. He could be back in anonimity of the Championship within 5 months of joining us.

I also think he's probably in the mindset and comfort zone of being used to playing with better players now.
