Arshavin hasn't been the hit people - well, Wenger at least - hoped he would be at Arsenal but he's still a quality player. One of the commentators in the 7-5 match pointed out that Arshavin hits a lot of shots that goes astray, he makes mistakes etc. but he is still an extremely accomplished player and one that a lot of Premier league teams would want in their side. I agree and think it would be a stunning signing for Reading if it was to come off.

TheSiege I think that some of you are missing the point here. As far as I know..

I lost interest here.

Arshavin's best position from when I've seen him play is in behind the striker ...... this is maybe what Pog needs someone who is on his wave length. Playing together in the national team for so long .. Arshavin will know how to compliment Pog's playing style.

Surely not worth £9 million still he is worth about £4 mill at best.

TommyF
LoyalRoyalFan If AZ is buying players that he wants he can basically oxf*rd off.

At the moment I think I'd let him pick the team and make the substitutionsnlet alone choose new players.

But only for the second half.

TheSiege AND would replace 4 players who rarely get a game.

Four players who rarely get a game - well three of our best players on Saturday couldn't get a game last season - McCarthy, Morrison, Tabb.

I reckon Joe Cole might possibly be on this list too dependent whether we get him or not may depend on whether we buy other players. His versatility across in attacking midfield roles I feel would be useful for us.

I'd like to agree, but in all reality we won't sign Arshavin or Cole, or anyone with (current) reputation, we're just not that club.... unfortunately..?

SCIAG Arshavin would not fit with Brian's style of play.

So an improvement then.

JS28ZoD Given Brian's recent dealings, I'd be pretty happy with the chairman brining in a few of his own players.

shorey? excellent- probably the most premeire league player we have
roberts? excellent- probably our best forward
mcleary? excellent- one of the best attacking players in our squad
guthrie? looked very good for a few games, and now everyone is creaming themselves for him to be brought back into teh fold as the cure all for our woes
pog? up and down, scored a few, looks good with the ball at ghis feet- and if your thinking is to be followed was probably AZs signing anyway
gunter- experienced, and good back up/competition where we were very short

Come on, he can't be any worse at it than McDermott.

I dunno: he's fast, hard-working, and loses the ball a lot.

think it would be perhaps possible to get a dawson, or a cole on loan till the end of the season
if they really want to play week in week out.

no way any quality player will sign permenantly for a club in jeopardy of going down though
and its still more likely theyll go to a bigger/better club

A quick google my guess is it resembles something like this;

Goalkeepers: Igor Akinfeev (CSKA Moscow), Alexander Belenov (FC Kuban), Vladimir Gabulov (Anzhi Makhachkala), Artyom Rebrov (Spartak Moscow).

Defenders: Alexander Anyukov (Zenit St. Petersburg), Alexey Berezutsky (CSKA Moscow), Vasily Berezutsky (CSKA Moscow), Taras Burlak (Lokomotiv Moscow), Vladimir Granat (Dynamo Moscow), Sergei Ignashevich (CSKA Moscow), Arseny Logashov (Anzhi Makhachkala), Evgeny Makeev (Spartak Moscow), Georgy Shchennikov (CSKA Moscow), Renat Yanbaev (Lokomotiv Moscow, on loan at Zenit St. Petersburg), Alexei Yeshchenko (Lokomotiv Moscow), Yuri Zhirkov (Anzhi Makhachkala).

Midfielders: Diniyar Bilyaletdinov (Spartak Moscow), Vladimir Bystrov (Zenit St. Petersburg), Denis Cheryshev (Real Madrid), Igor Denisov (Zenit St. Petersburg), Alan Dzagoev (CSKA Moscow), Viktor Faizulin (Zenit St. Petersburg), Denis Glushakov (Lokomotiv Moscow), Dmitry Kombarov (Spartak Moscow), Vladislav Kulik (FC Kuban), Magomed Ozdoev (Lokomotiv Moscow), Alexander Samedov (Lokomotiv Moscow), Oleg Shatov (Anzhi Makhachkala), Roman Shirokov (Zenit St. Petersburg), Dmitry Tarasov (Lokomotiv Moscow).

Forwards: Artyom Dzyuba (Spartak Moscow), Maxim Grigoryev (Lokomotiv Moscow), Alexander Kerzhakov (Zenit St. Petersburg), Alexander Kokorin (Dynamo Moscow, Fyodor Smolov (Anzhi Makhachkala).

+ Arshavin.

I don't really understand the problem of Anton having a wish list, this is of course presuming there is a wish list rather than a list of about three and the other seven forming a hefty kick up the arse for the players who are apparently already 'playing'. There is also the possibility that AZ and Brian know we are not going to look too attractive a proposition to a lot of players so maybe some reaching out has already been done to players we might have a chance of getting. Let's face it, I'm not sure how likely we would have been to get The Pog if Anton hadn't said hello, just a thought.

Tbf the guy seems to know what he is talking about. Its his money at the end of the day so of course he should have an input into who its spent on and how much of it is spent.

he gave McDermott a list in january of players he would bankroll if McDermott wanted them. I'm pretty sure this'll be the same scenario

I think AZ would be better off getting his wife Katsia to turn up at training as she could certainly stiffen up our defence.
