Signed new deal until 2016: http://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/article/morrisoncontract-021012-403210.aspx

Defender Sean Morrison has agreed a contract extension with the club until the summer of 2016.

The centre back, who arrived at Madejski Stadium from Swindon Town in January 2011, impressed many with a loan spell at Huddersfield Town last season, helping to form a watertight defence and scoring a penalty as the Terries won promotion to the Championship at Wembley Stadium in May.

He has made two appearances for Reading to date – scoring on his debut against Charlton and coming off the bench in the 3-2 win over Q.P.R last week, producing a vital block to help send Brian McDermott’s men into the last 16 of the Capital One Cup.

“It’s always nice to sign a new deal, now I’ve got to push on and show all the Reading fans what I can do,” said Morrison.

“I’m improving every day and I think if the manager was to call upon me I’d be ready. Since I’ve been here the gaffer has given me his backing, I know he and the coaching staff believe in me which gives me a load of confidence.”

Brian McDermott was full of praise for ‘Morro’ following the recent thrilling win at Loftus Road.

“Sean is a player who went out on loan and did really well for us – he’s got the tools to work at his game and be a really good centre half,” he said.

“If he keeps working and keeps doing what he’s doing he’ll be a very, very good defender. I’m sure he will be.”

Probably got something to do with him being very good out on loan and pissinginpublicgate being a complete non-incident

Well yeah I'm sure it has, but sometimes managers won't consider decent loan spells to be enough, and would take an opportunity like bad tabloid press as an excuse to get rid. But thankfully we have a good manager.

He's still very young too, only like 20 or something? That's a baby for a centre-half

So long as we don't get pissinginpublicgate 2 and he behaves himself I am generally happy with this.

If he improves at this rate he will play for a top four side.

He was quite superb v Everton and looked twice the player Pearce was when he started out.

I thought he was outstanding today, and his height is a real asset defensively and offensively. But as mentioned, he needs someone better than Gorkss along side him. Some of his tackles were phenomenal.

He's not especially slow either. I think Mariappa or Pearce would both improve the defence alongside him. Pearce has impressed more than Mariappa so far, but Mariappa has the pace.

Said after the Arsenal game that I reckoned he would end up playing for a much bigger club than Reading and I reckon that was reinforced with today's giant performance.

I also reckon he helped turn today's performance around. Towards the end of the first half, he surged out of defence with the ball, brushing past several challenges before calmly passing the ball to the feet of a team mate and continuing on an overlapping run. In doing so, he lifted the fans and showed all of his team mates the type of character and performance they needed to produce.

And he nearly killed* himself going for a set piece at one point.

*slight exaggeration.
