RoyalBlue Said after the Arsenal game that I reckoned he would end up playing for a much bigger club than Reading and I reckon that was reinforced with today's giant performance.

I also reckon he helped turn today's performance around. Towards the end of the first half, he surged out of defence with the ball, brushing past several challenges before calmly passing the ball to the feet of a team mate and continuing on an overlapping run. In doing so, he lifted the fans and showed all of his team mates the type of character and performance they needed to produce.

Agreed with second part of your post - reminded me of Shorey's positive run and potshot which went in vs Spurs in 2006 at home

In no way can you diminish Morrison's block by mentioning it might have been (or was) handball.

It was a match-winning block, a fantastic stop about a million miles from the near-disgraceful
antics of Gorkss (2) McAnuff and ambling Shorey for the Keystone Cops goal we conceded.

(And though Feds did well to get a hand to the final shot, he was lacking in positivity before that)

Morrison showed speed, aggression, bravery, commitment and positivity and even if the ref had given a penalty it was still a brilliant block

Getting some praise.

Cracking bit of analysis for the boy. He had a superb game and now looks like he should be number one choice at centre-back.

Anything can happen but the real point with Morrison is he's young
and improving really quickly. To already be a likely starter in the
Premiership is impressive enough at 21, but any meaningful improvement
on his Everton performance and the big sides will be knocking on our door

You have to learn to live with that at this level. In any case, he signed a new deal recently, so they can do one.

Its fantastic he's English as well. Could be the next John Terry the way he puts his head in the mix.

Has the potential to be more of a Tony Adams for me.

Would love to see him partner Pearce at the back. Maybe Rodgers will sign them both in January

Quite ironic in that our CB who is POTS is sidelined for contractual reasons (allegedly) & as a result a new CB 'star' is discovered.

How comes he's not had a chance up until now? Bizarre - he looks an absolute natural & 100% captain material.

Pearce needs to wake up, smell the coffee and sign on the dotted line or, find another club.

Morrison already looks more at home in the top flight than Pearce did in the Championship 12 months ago and, assuming we keep hold of him, seems likely to have one central birth with his name on.

If I were McDermott, I'd be seriously considering spending a big chunk of my January budget on a top notch partner for young Morrison and this might be why the club appear reluctant to agree terms with a centre half who is looking increasingly over rated by his many admirers.

and as TSI said, them coming in means we won't need to sell our stars.
Long term contract, balls in our court.

His one performance last year was part of (deb8ably) our biggest defensive shambles of the season, so he went on loan. Having only previously impressed at League 1 level, he was below our established centre backs who were a gr8 defence last year, and our new signing who was meant to be brilliant, in the pecking order. Don't think it's that surprising. Nice to see him improving though, but it's easy to see how a few things could have gone against him last Saturday and it would have been a very different review.

I like the start he's made and the way he's waited for, and now taken, his chance.

He has all the physical attributes from what I can see, and he certainly looks like he's got the bravery and appetite for defending (ie he's not like Bikey who always looked like a someone who didn't actually want to defend) and with that I'd say he does remind me of Sonko with a bit less pace. Perhaps a more telling likeness would be John Mackie.

And there lies the warning I guess. We've seen a couple of decent performances from Morrison and people are talking about him being targetted by other clubs and him being captain material etc etc (potentially I'd agree and hope he continues to progress to deserve those kind of plaudits) but Mackie looked like the next Tony Adams for 6 months. He then spent the rest of his career slowly dropping down the leagues.

A couple of good and very promising games under his belt, and a whole lot of potential, but don't get too carried away just yet please.

I can't really remember how quick Sonko was in his prime it was long enough ago, but Morrison ain't exactly no slouch

He's not slow no, and the recovering tackle Big Foot/Dirk mentioned above is a good example of that, but the likes of Upson, Sonko and Primus were certainly quicker than him from what I've seen. Their pace really would get them and others out of trouble.

Hoop, I'm not getting carried away by a few decent and one great performance

It's more a combination of things

(a) He was extremely highly-rated at Swindon and we went in early (we said) to stop other clubs.

(b) Physically he is awesome and only 21

(c) He was highly-rated at Huddersfield and they wanted to buy him

(d) In the Everton game he looked, to me, like utter class, and considering he has 8-12 years improvement in him (God and injuries willing) it suggests a future star.

(e) Much as I like Pearce, IMO he shows a lot more promise than Pearce did.

i hink th etwo of them could be a great CB partnership for years to come(if pearce signs his bloody contract)
between them theyve got th elot, and have shown such big improvements in such short time(for CBs) that i think they could be bloody brilliant
like ivar and sonko when they were good, but better

regarding ivar- is he still playing or perpetually injured? could do with his as a defensive coach/mentor
