Leigertwood - Not good enough at this level

by LoyalRoyalFan » 24 Nov 2012 18:53

Starting to get into Coppell terrority here where we have the same players playing over and over again, as a result of being the managers favourites.

Leigertwood is simply not good enough at this level and needs to be dropped.

Hmmmmm...Lots of supporters have great loyalty to this guy. But in my honest opinion.
a) how many times does someone in space on the wing ask for his pass - but he passes two yards in front to a bloke that is heavily marked (ie hospital ball). b) Any pass greater than three yards will mostly go to the other team. I seriously think there is something wrong with his eyesight?(I ain't joking). c) Yeh, he can hustle and spoil- but a ball pass of vision, forget it. It's one of those conundrums where the total problem of the jigsaw may be him as the main man in midfield- but no-one ever dares to query or face up to close inspection. One of McD's favourites so he's here to stay no matter the mares. (Next up - Gorkss).

Most complacent player we have. Looks panicked when in possession. Gives the ball away time and time again. For me, without January additions in mind, we need Karacan and Guthrie in the middle with Tabby on the bench. No criticism of Tabby, but Karacan is better and I don't favour playing two defensive midfielders in the same side. You need some creativity in there as well.

Leigertwood has got to be benched.

Would agree apart from the fact that McDermott's dismal summer transfer dealings and spat with Guthrie have left us with no real alternative.

I'd like to see Tabb and Guthrie have a go. We have enough height in the side to not worry about L,Wood. Tabb has the mobility and aggression and Guthrie won't shit himself in possession. Tabb has enough bite to be the ball winner.

Leigertwood is much better than Tabb or Karacan.

I'm starting to agree with this view. Ledge is too slow and relaxed for the PL. Tabb is more atheletic and has played really well the last few games. I think he could exchange well with Guthrie. Although Guthrie would need to put a big old shift in.

The biggest weakness in our side though for me is Gorkss.

You can't continue to carry a midfielder who only completes 2/3 of his passes every week. You expect your strikers and wingers to lose it that often but not your chief central midfielder.

He's got a role to play but it's not playing every week in a 4-4-2 in the Premier League.

I think the opening poster is being overly harsh on ML here. He's been a solid if unspectacular player thus far this season. He's never going to be a game changer, you know what you'll get from him and infuses that's why the the gaffer picks him ahead of others.

He's left himself with no one to pick him ahead of!

As for being a 'game changer', his mistakes are always likely to put him into that category.

The problem is that it is far from just Leigertwood who isn't good enough at this level. I can't see anymore than 3 or 4 of our starting line up getting into any other side in the prem.

Nobody is going to get anymore out of this side as there is no more left in it. A mixture of the team giving all their effort to the best of their ability is good enough to get us competing. Unfortunately that extra bit of quality is missing and that is what will cost us.

Yes Leigertwood looks a weak link but one of about 4 or 5.

Erm? Not sure what you mean there? He was sold short by Shoreys "pass", but from that we were hit on the break with Gunter out of position - don't quite see how Leigertwood can be blamed for that....

I know it's cheating but perhaps he could have brought their player down?! McCarthy spent most of the game doing for them as we broke forwards!

Rubbish. It was Shorey's pass/interception that was poor and he couldn't get to. Not his fault at all

Ledge is a back up player for bottom half clubs at best

Like the guy, just to slow for the Premier League. We need a new CM with quality to partner Jem
