'Greed that we had no shape. It was the first times I've looked at a Reading team playing and not been able to see any sort of plan in motion over how to break the opposition down. Not sure our wingers beat their man once all game, and given HRK was up against a 17 yo that's pretty unforgivable.

Brian's substitutions were predictable and had no impact on the game whatsoever. Bringing on Hunt as a winger was a stroke of utter stupidity, McCleary offered little more than HRK. Guthrie should have been brought on after 55 minutes for the diabolical Leigertwood, and with 10 minutes to go it was the perfect time to give Samuel a go to see if he could catch the Saints defence off guard.

Bored of this team tbh. They have very little quality and only bother putting effort in when the big boys come to town. Change is needed.

And if Soton is comfortable playing 17 year-olds why aren't our younger, more athletic, talent being given a look?

Shaw was superb. Ours aren't. That's the fairly simple answer.

Just got back.

Now i usually dont complain about the team much but this was a joke.

What a waste of time and money. Easily our worst performance of the season against a poor Soton side - though at least they could make more than ONE ruddy pass to each other!! sure the spurs game was bad but at least they were a decent side who played well that day. Soton were poor too.

I wouldnt mind if we had a hatful of chances but missed them and still lost, at least we TRIED. If we go down at least go down fighting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im fuming - im still in support of the players and McD but we wont stay up playing like this. Every team can pass better than us, we know and accept that for this season at least, but what annoys me is that today that Soton got near enough EVERY 50-50 ball, our players couldnt be bothered, no fighting spirit whatsoever - thats inexcusable!! Only Tabb seemed to be bothered.

First half, did almost nothing, soton were poor but better than us but they were at home. We had ONE decent shot that hit the post. Thought we had a chance 2nd half but would have helped if the team BOTHERED to turn up. Didnt have a SINGLE shot on goal.....in fact more worrying is that we didnt look like getting within 20 yards of their goal after thy had scored..the most exciting part of the game in the 2nd half when i looked at my watch to gladly see there wasnt much time left!! LOL!!

Felt like a championship game. The soton fans may gloat but on that performance i cant see them staying up either.

Now we have to win at Sunderland, just to keep ourselves in touching distance. Lose that and its a massive task to stay up

Clueless. Inept. etc, etc. If they are getting paid Premier wages, then they must be able to step up a gear!!!! They couldn't even play the easy pass, kept hoofing it forward and loosing the ball. We need other midfield players now.

Teams have quickly realised we cant pass - i can predict the next game pattern:-

1) opposing team gets back and keeps it for ages, making 10's of passes, they either score a goal or lose it.
2) we get ball, their players quickly close our players down, we hoof it and they get it back.
3) repeat.

nb. maybe add we get a corner or free kick and score occassionally

A poor performance is the first thingto say/confirm.

We're definitely down. It will take a revival of Lazurus proportions to save our season.

I don't know if Saints are a good side or we made them look good but they looked at least one division better than us. They outfought us and outplayed us. If it hadn't been for Feds (forget the terrible back pass situation) it would have been 4 or 5. 1-0 was not a fair refelection. They could, and should, have been 2 up inside 10 minutes but for poor finishing (side netting was the first one missed from only 8 metres out).

All we could play was hoofball. It looking very old-fashioned as teams are starting to adopt the Barcelona style of play. I love Brian but he's got to do better than this. At least his assessment was honest. I've heard mnaagers in the past say how close we were when we've been outplayed. Brian didn't say that. He recognised, and admitted to, a bad performance.

I think it might be time to change the captain. Trouble is Jobi will take it bad and who else is there? Pearce?

People saying 20 points is about right I feel although where the next point is going to come from is anyone's guess. Swansea at home if they're not up for it?

Where I disgaree with many posters was on their assessment of our support today. In the circumsatances we were loud and gave it a real go throughout most of the match.

All in all, a very poor performance that spells relegation for sure.

Went with a couple of Saints supporting clients and it was interesting to hear their take on the game and our team.

Stand out player for us according to them - Tabby with Shorey getting an honourable mention. They thought we were lacking quality in midfield and one of them was surprised after the game to hear that McAnuff was on the pitch! So nothing new there then.

They reckon their buy of the year is Cline at £1m and a future England right back in the making, Shaw is another off the Saints talent conveyor belt. However they are not all that about their £12m signing Ramirez so maybe it is not all about money.
