Thing is, in South American their culture encourages cheating to win and is considered a positive trait with those who do to be admired as they are considered clever. As much as us Brits think it is "simply not cricket sir," that is how he was brought up and nothing will change him.

And for that he is totally suited to the people of Liverpool - they do love a proper Scally.

Whereas the people of Reading put Alf in the stocks last week and pelted him with mouldy fruit following his deliberate hand ball?
Regrettably we live in a cheating (so called professional) world with football, cricket, cycling and rugby plus any number of other sports being full of cheats both British and foreign.
Thank goodness for snooker and golf, two rare sports where the professionals don't cheat.

Nah, it largely went with little comment because he was rightly caught and punished and then said it was stupid thing to do.

No; we, you, I tutted and said, "Silly Boy, that sort of thing never happens for us"

But if ALF had been found guilty of racist remarks, been a serial diver and showed obvious delight in getting away with blatant cheating I' would expect (hope) that the reaction from Reading fans would be a bit more critical than Liverpool's towards Suarez.

(Or is it ok because he is such a fantastic goalscorer?)

I can't stand Suarez myself, think he's a nasty cheating scumbag but having just watched this on youtube I don't think that he has done anything different to any other striker in the world this time. In fact, after he handballs it (which does not look at all deliberate unless he has the reflexs of a cat) his body language changes as if he expects to be pulled up for the handball and just hits the ball in anyway. He doesn't wheel away in celebration claiming the goal at all. Yep, he does the wrist kiss thing but isn't that a trademark celebration these days. Do you expect him to chase after the ref to correct him after he's awarded the goal?

If you are going to get het up about Suarez then do it for the million other things he's done but I don't think this is one we can pin on him.

Don't bookmakers still avoid snooker because games were being rigged for betting purposes?

Agree totally, in the Mansfield game Suarez just did what professional sportsmen do (apart from the saintly snooker and golf players) - try to get away with what they can and expect to be corrected by the referee if they go too far: the failure was on the part of the referee to see the blatant handball (exactly the same as Henry's goal against the Irish)

The celebration of a blatant offence that I was referring to was his reaction to the penalty he conceded against Ghana in the last World Cup (a perfectly "Professional" act) - at the time it happened I only saw the celebrations - I thought he had scored the penalty, not conceded it.

Thought at the time, that's a bit off - now realise it was just part of his DNA.
