Palacios hasn't been fit in eons - let QPR pay him a small fortune to do a Kieron Dyer impression

If I was a betting man, I'd say we were to sign a RB.

Elm Park Pasty So is this the Marquee signing every one was hoping for in the Summer, the one which was going to send HNA into Meltdown???!!! I am so thrilled and excited, that I am not sure if I can contain myself (I really should stop buying clothes too small so I can slim into them). I shall just go over here and sit down and wait for this EXCITING signing  . Cheese and Pickle sandwich anyone? While we wait?

He's a £12m player. You expected us to be signing someone better?

Maybe we have revived the deal for Arshavin and it was kept under wraps all this time.

Think it will be someone Russian if it is a "major" signing no doubt AZ would of done a bit of persuading.

In that case I think there is a good chance it might be Pavluchenko.

That's what I was thinking. Still extremely unlikely, but you never know.
Can't see it being Palacios, Long, Huddlestone, Welbeck for obvious reasons - but the whole Russian connection makes this slightly plausible.

Still plenty of time left in the window, and so far, so good.

Funny how just because people know Palacios' name it makes him a good signing. The guy isn't fit and has been massively unimpressive for Stoke (a team you'd think he'd fit into quite nicely)

Still, as long as we've all seen him on SSN it must be a real sign of ambition :!:

My comment wasn't aimed about Palacios. My comment was about the excited wait for news of star players signing in the Summer that came to not a lot really. I just meant that I was not going to get excited until we have the obligatory cheesy pen writing/shirt holding picture.

Having said that Mr Palacios WAS a £12M player, just as comparably Michael Owen was a £16M player and Fernando Torres was a £50M player. Just because Palacios was worth £12M then does not mean he is the same player now, especially after the debilitating effects of a long standing knee injury. I have no idea how good he could be.

Aha! This would be RFC hedging their bets, in the same week we sign one player called 'HOPE' and later that week we sign another whose initials spell 'GON'. Nice :D .

Have you conducted a statisical analysis of his performances for Stoke?

My point is that any player who we can all be confident will have a signficantly positive effect on us staying up is probably out of our reach anyway.

An injury-hit 28-year-old who once looked good enough to be a first-team regular at a club in contention for a top 4 finish? Yeah, I'll take that thanks.

As for:

I think you're misunderstanding the difference between a good signing and a guaranteed success. Nobody should be daft enough to think that Palacios is the latter, but his injury record wouldn't preclude him being a good punt for us.

Oooh matron.

Stoke fans think he's crap, and given they watch him every week (or not as is the case) I'd trust their opinion and Pulis' over a few numbers.

Anyone who can't get into midfield ahead of Dean Whitehead is really struggling.

Fair enough. Personally I can't really see an awful more to suggest this signing would be any more successful than that of Akpan (which provoked widespread hysteria) in the long run.
