Several sources pointing towards our interest in Chris Baird including the Sunday Mirror:

West Brom and Reading are chasing Fulham ­midfielder Chris Baird, writes Darren Witcoop.
The Northern ­Ireland ­international, who is out of contract at the end of the season, faces a battle to ­remain at Craven Cottage.
The 30-year-old has yet to open talks over his future – alerting ­Fulham’s Premier League rivals over a ­January swoop.
Baird wants to stay with the Cottages, but could be tempted away with the prospect of a long-term deal elsewhere.

Indeed, Fulham don't think he's worth a long term contract but we do?

You get this all the time. When players reach 30 they're looking for a retirement contract. Some get it, some don't.

Grant Holt effectively held Norwich to ransom on his contract last season and is now there until he's 34. Fair play to him and it still may prove to be the right decision, but they went two years too far on it in my view. In relation to Baird you've got the same situation and I wouldn't like to see Reading be a part of it.

Reading were talking to Fulham about a defender, papers assumed it was Baird, turned out it was Kelly. The Mirror are obviously lacking in bullshit they can print in the football rumours section.
