Having just read that excellent Guardian article I can only assume that Tony Fernandez is certifiably insane. I would, and I'm being quite sincere, rather be supporting Reading in the championship than Reading in the Premiership and witness the club conducting business the QPR way. Not only is it a ridiculously high risk strategy for QPR but the fun of supporting a football club has got lost somewhere.

Don't worry chaps! The record deal Brian McDermott and Nicky Hammond spent the day working on wasn't a waste of time afterall. They did it!

That's just super, but I don't think anyone's suggesting a high risk strategy, just to be a little more competitive in the transfer front. The only team I can remember spending less than us was Blackpool. Why is it that other clubs get promoted and spend a bit, but we can't?

I wasn't commenting on Reading's activity or lack of it on transfer deadline day I was merely remarking on QPR's wildly profligate way of doing business.

F*cking bullsh*t Reading, f*cking bullsh*t.

You didn't manage it. You f*cked up. End of.

Although rationally I can't blame Reading as we took a gamble not to buy in the summer and then we probably couldn't attract anyone I can't help but be disappointed and at the end of the day I will vote with my feet.

Bottom line. I'm Not spending my hard earned cash on reading when Anton can't even part with his unearned cash. Some of us might have some pathetically cringeworthy sort of gay rectum love for Madejski, which is understandable given what he did. Anton will not have it so easy though and has to earn his band of rectum friends. So far he's done little and is surviving on the honeymoon period and the Roberts purchase.

Tomorrow I will chill out and defend The club no doubt to keep sane. But right now I'm hacked off and my true feelings slip out.

MmmMonsterMunch No relegation clause for Samba on a 4 and half year deal. Unbelievable!

Not really? - QPR can then sell at their price and he can't ask to leave for nothing....

This is the guy who engineered his transfer to Anzhi just a year into a new 4.5 year deal at Blackburn - denying that move was for money he said Anzhi matched his 'ambition' before moving to a team seemingly destined for relegation into the Championship, just a year later.

He'll be gone if they go down, and QPR won't recoup £12m for him as a Championship club.

dont agree, he is a good defender. is he worth £12m, not sure £8m seemed about right

so as a deal qpr spent on paper

samba - approx £32million
Remi - approx £25million

yikes

incidentally how does this fit into the new uefa rules re: spending that come into effect next year i think

"Fernandes has already suggested that he would walk away if the club went down."

That's complete bullshit and a disgrace.

That is true but only time will tell if our activity is good enough to protect our PL status, as that is our immediate goal.

Probably why we didnt entertain the though of signing David Bentley, and for good reason if they wanted a fair slice of the 15 million pound transfer fee they paid!

If we beat Sunderland I reckon we will stay up, all good qpr spending money but it may take them some time to gel. Shame we can't even loan anyone in now though

Suspect Brian, Anton and Nicky had an evening pissing themselves laughing whilst enjoying a few bottles of vino and a pizza whilst watching deadline day on sky sports news and scanning hob nob.

I have it on very good authority that club record bids (2.6M) were made for all of the following last night

Ince, Arshavin, Aguero, Gerrard, Lampard, Gylfi, Pavlyuchenko,Messi, Piquet, Ronaldo and Van Persie.

Apparently was a right laugh trying to be serious on the phone to the other clubs, Anton cracked first but Brian and Nicky really pushed each other on with proper poker faced performances right up to 11pm.

Apparently Hammond put on a banging 'arry voice to Odemwingie that seemed to completely fool the lad early on in the evening.

I think we are due a reality check tomorrow, ultimately I think it will go to the last game but IF we make it then BMcD a shoein for Manager of the Year.

I hope QPR do go down, yesterday was an obscene spree reminiscent of the doors being opened at Selfridges on Boxing Day.

Reading have revealed that they failed with a club-record bid before the close of the transfer window on Thursday night.

The Royals had been linked with a move for Blackpool's Tom Ince and they had made a bid for the England Under-21 international earlier this week.

Brian McDermott has been busy in this month's transfer window bringing in Stephen Kelly, Hope Akpan, Nick Blackman and Daniel Carrico, but Director of Football Nick Hammond has revealed they have just missed on a fifth new face which would have been a club record signing.

"We have been working throughout the day on one last record deal to bring a player to the club but it hasn't come to fruition," Hammond told the club's official website. "We've made four very good signings in this window and you can see that the players we've brought in have already made an impact."

Oh well, what did we really expect, kind of wish Brian had kept his mouth shut so we didn't have Ince dangled in front of us.

We're playing well, Kelly is slotted right in (prem experience) Akpan is growing in stature and is already delivering (one for the future) Carrico has good pedigree and Blackman has a name we will struggle to sing.

All in all a good market especially as the team are doing well.

cmonurz Posted my full thoughts in a longer post half way through this thread, but if we keep finding things don't 'come to fruition' it stands to reason we need to look at our approach, as well as the market.

You've got that so wrong.

Our approach is right. We land players at value prices, and don't get ripped off. The way the club is / has been run means we don't get desperate and therefore don't get dragged into paying daft prices for players. It is those deals that don't come to fruition. We'll miss out on some good ones, but it's a policy that has stood the club in pretty good stead over the years I'd say.

As opposed to looking at the market - why the hell should we do what every other club does? It is the way this club is run that means we DON'T get desperate and dragged into all this nonsense. Other clubs could learn so much from Reading. That is why we are so often referred to by other clubs, and indeed FANS of other clubs as being a model that others should aspire to.

And yet many of our own fans don't see it.

You couldn't make it up.

No relegation clause for Samba. This is pathetic.

The injections from Fernandes should be gifts to the club, not loans otherwise they are totally fcuked when he walks away after relegation.

Crazy that it's allowed to happen really.

Apparently Samba has only played a handful of games this season and is not match fit. Interesting that 'Arry distanced himself from the 'credit' for signing him.
