No. Current Roma coach. Wonder where this has come from?

successfully managed Barcelona b before taking over Roma where he did a reasonable job last season. He has connections at decent clubs in Europe and could potentially sign players like michu etc... Or if he can just attract a few Barcelona rejects! comparing him to other managers that have been mentioned hes probably up there for me.

Growing up in Spain I used to admire this guy. Great footballer and only time will tell how he gets on as manager. would definitely not be against this happening.

His spell at Roma is far from inspiring.... (I am basing this on his Wiki page and this article referenced on it: http://fourfourtwo.com/blogs/serieaaaaargh/archive/2012/04/26/luis-enrique-s-roma-experiment-going-up-in-smoke.aspx)

Pros

Well connected
Likely to play a passing game
Well enough known name to attract players

Cons

Not that experienced
Record, albeit at a pretty high level, is not outstanding

On balance, if the serious contenders are Adkins, Di Canio or Poyet, then Luis Enrique has got to be up there as a very strong candidate. I think the question isn't why would we pick him but why would he chose to come to us.

My friend that follows Italian football said he was not given enough time and was expected to produce results and win the league. He was appointed after a take over of the club and with a new rich owner he was allowed to build his own team which consisted of players like Bojan, Heinze and John arne riise. The season was not what they expected but still only missed out on European football by a couple of points finishing 7th which is nothing to be ashamed about. Overall he should of been given more time since it probably took the firs year to get the team to gel etc... If antons willing to put up the money, this will be a great appointment for us.

Am I right in thinking now that we've had time to process what has happened, we're not too unhappy about it?

Not surprised that SJM has said he wanted McDermott to stay, he was his appointment and as such he more than likely felt a bit miffed that one of his "men" was on his way. As far as Enrique goes a bit untried in all honesty but I think you have to look beyond his experience as a manager and look as well at what he could bring to the club.

he has been long admired by the two biggest Spanish sides and as such will have a very good name and reputaion to attract players and as we see each week on tv the Spanish la liga sides play some pretty impressive styles of football, all in all the overall package is one that would look to be quite an exciting one.

Also yes I agree with an earlier post with reference to the "Reading way" I think things are about to change, not in a Manchester City dramatical way, but in a style that will see us lose our tag of buying cheep for success, we have lived far too long on the Doyle and Long combo of cheep in but massive profit out, maybe if we had adopted a more adventurous transfer dealing period over the two windows this season we would have fared better this season, that of course is something we will now never know.

This has been Anton's first venture as an owner and of course there has to be a learning curve, my other doubts are as to where Hammond sits in all this, he has been the main administrator of the "bargain deals" how will he feel if and when things change and if it was to be Enrique would he want a Director of Football ?, I certainly expect the previous love affair betweem Anton and SJM might not be as strong as it has been prior to last weeks sacking of Mcdermott.

To be fair there isn't any quotes from SJM in that article, it is just hearsay. However I do think it's likely he may not have been happy with the sacking of McDermott.

Even if SJM was not happy with the sacking it would be stupid for him to come out and actually say so. He's still very much part of the club that needs to be seen as being unified

Enrique would definitely be my choice over the likes of Adkins, Dolan and Poyet etc.

As ever with any managerial signing though you just don't know what you're going to get until you have the benefit of hindsight

To get the best out of Luis Enrique he would need a fair bit of money behind him in the summer methinks.

Adkins would be a sensible and safe choice.

Someone like Luis Enrique would be exciting and capture the imagination, but could go either way... signals a change of ambition and intent.

With a Poyet a midway point.

I'm still undecided on what I'd prefer, although happy with any of these sorts really I guess.
