He may as well have been, he was played behind the striker when his usual position is in front of the defenders

Can't think of a single Reading player who has had more excuses made for him by the fans than Guthrie. He's been cut even more slack than Matejovsky was given which is some achievement.

Ridiculous. He's played all over the midfield for his previous clubs including out wide and as an attacking midfielder.

He's just got a shit attitude and it's beyond me why Reading fans give so much time to the one player in the squad who has refused to represent the club this season.

Royal Farmer I don't know if this has been posted yet, apologies if so, but Brian will be the guest for 'Goals on Sunday' on Sky Sports, 31st March, 11:00. Should be interesting viewing, and we could hear his side of the story.

Damn, I was hoping he'd just 'move on'.

I've come to realise that Goals on Sunday is basically the Jonathan Ross show for football where out of work managers whore themselves out. Saying that I'll definitely watch it!

Maguire Hindsight's a wonderful thing. Most people on here thought Guthrie would be the answer to our lack of creativity in midfield (myself included).

Accept we didn't sign anyone in Jan (apart from Kelly) who could make an immediate improvement to the quality of our side, which was a mistake.

He might've been if he hadn't been asked to play in a rather alien number 10 position or told to adapt to our way of playing, ie not how he's played his whole career.

He's a professional footballer - he can still get fit, control a ball, move with the ball, pass a ball etc. It's something of an abandonment of responsibility to say "I didn't play well because of the manager". It's not like he was asked to play full-back.

He did that, he just wasn't the answer to our lack of creativity because he wasn't played in the position that best used his abilities. Imagine playing Zola in front of the back four or Jan Molby behind a centre forward, their impact would be much diminished.

F*cking w*nkers at Sky.

Just stated that AZ said that McDermott was sacked because he didn't do more in the transfer window - no he f*cking didn't you f*cking liars!

As for 'play development' that's not what he said you deaf idiots. He said 'player development' not his fault that his English is only as good as that Scottish B*stard Nicholas. And if people couldn't hear that, just set what he said in the context of what he said immediately afterwards about players having the potential to develop.

Playing Danny Guthrie (who's previously said he sees himself as an attacking midfielder) as an attacking midfielder is not the same as playing Zola in front of the defence. It's just a daft comparison.

He needs to take responsibility for his own poor performances, beginning with making sure he actually attends the matches.

Usual shit from the morons - notice Le Tissier said he was pleased for Adkins and didn't knock RFC. Merson was a failure as a coach and same with Thompson to some extent whereas Charlie Nicholas is mates with McDermott so I'd take what those three say with a pinch of salt.

+1 oxf*rd annoying.

Surely they knew 'play development' is in reference to blooding the youngsters. that is bloody obvious!

The primary reason that Adkins is in is because of his footballing philosophy. Something they didn't want to pick up on!
