Thing about QPR is, they have spent so much that they just have to carry on. There would be no point selling a few high earners and risking getting stuck in the Championship with a ridiculous wage bill. Their only hope is to keep a lot of players, keep overspending, and buy their way back. Obviously they could end up in a Pompey or Leeds situation if it doesn't come off but the owners won't be around to care. If you look at Newcastle and West Ham, they show the "ignore your wagebill" model is the only way to guarantee success, and QPR have a very decent squad for the championship.

Whereas Reading probably need a thorough rebuilding. Any new manager wants to bring in his own players and we have a number of aging ones who will be out of the picture with Adkins forced to build for 2 years time in the PL, a number out of contract will leave alond with a few we'd like to ship out and of course there are some who might well want to move to stay in the PL.

out of contract/unwanted:
Pearce, Roberts, Hunt, Church, Tabb, Shorey, Harte, Gorkss, Gunter
Possible sales:
Mariappa, Guthrie, Pogrebyak, Federici
Aging:
McAnuff, Leigertwood, Kebe

So that would leave us with
McCarthy, Kelly, Morrison, Caricco, Cummings, Robson-Kanu, Karacan, Akpan, McCleary, Le Fondre, Blackman as a first team, so many new signings needed, and time to to bed in required.

Think we'll be behind QPR

Ian Royal
JC Interesting article here

Basically QPR are in a hole financially when relegated

No shit sherlock.

Not a problem if they make a quick return as "although 2013-14 will be the first period that is scrutinised, the sanctions would not apply until after the figures have been assessed in December 2014".

Which means a fine if they go up to the PL at the 1st attempt.

Question is how will the the Financial rules affect Reading's transfer activity and is it possible to determine the maximum budget that could be avilable to the club?

2 world wars, 1 world cup Well said. The mind really does boggle at such a statement, if indeed he made it. I turned down two good London jobs. The only places I've ever turned down, because I can't stand the place to live in. Great for visiting though which makes Reading the perfect UK town- best of both worlds.

I find it hard to imagine by what criteria Reading is 'the perfect UK Town'.

Once upon a time Simon Church got 12 Championship goals in a season, and was still a kid.

Once upon a time he was praised for his movement and needed to be in a slick-passing side.

Just a thought, but I wonder if he could come good under Adkins?
