Does anyone know if Nigel is going to be attempting to win any of the remaining games or will he just be trying some stuff out? I'm not entirely convinced 40 quid is gr8 value for Fulham if its going to be a brainstorming session / audition for next season

sandman
Royal91 424 passes in one game. Normally average about 280!

Thank god for that! I was kind of annoyed that we lost the game but now I know we won the passing competition I feel much better.

AND!! we won the % possession competition too 55% to 45% - how many times have we done that this season?

Whilst results still haven't been great at least we are playing a better type of football rather than hoofball, as long as we don't spend the entire game passing around the back that Rogers liked and I fell asleep watching

urz13 Don't understand the negativity. I thought we were brilliant at keeping possession in tight areas and working the ball into their half. Just need to start creating a couple more chances and we'll do well I think. However all game I was surrounded by people saying 'get it forward' - one of whom was a guy I sit near to who constantly wanted McD's teams to 'pass it!'.
I, however found today very encouraging indeed.

McCarthy - 8
Gunter - 6
Mariappa - 7
Morrison - 6
Kelly - 7
Guthrie - 9 MOTM - I thought he was absolutely a class act today
Karacan - 6
Blackman - 5
McCleary - 9
McAnuff - 7
Pogrebnyak - 7

You're gonna get slaughtered for this, presuming it isn't sarcastic. Although the main gripe I have is that Mariappa gets a 7.

agreed re: the 7 as he was slow to react to the 1st goal, maccarthy played well but should have done better for both goals. interesting that he put blackman in rather than hunt or le fondre - not sure if there is any meaning or whether he is tinkering. I think its clear than anton sacked mcd and appointed NA with so few games as he was resigned to going down - that's how I read it anyway

Para Handy Actually, a large part of why I think I can't be arsed next season is the Clolub.

TBH being quite old most of my enjoyment is my pre-match pint(s) with my mates. Football is a social things these days. To be honest, it always was.

I still enjoy the beer with my mates, however, these days I feel disconnected from the club. No real affiliation with them. For me, and I realise that you probably can't understand this, the sacking of Brian was pretty much the final straw. I say "pretty much" because I'm still not sure after watching the team for over 40 years whether I can or can't be arsed to renew next year.

Reading HobNob is equally depressing. I skim the Team Board because all I see is the same tiresome idiots who either know better about what we should be doing or even worse are calling one of our most successful managers a bald pcunt. Really. Some of you people have no idea.

show me a link to anyone that calls BM that. i read this every day and have never seen it.

Definitely been posted on here. Brian has been called a pcunt (silent p) on here many times. You ungrateful shits.

I shouted "Make a substitution you Scouse twat" whilst watching the game on tv today. Also referred to McDermott as 'Egghead' to someone today (term of endearment may I add).

The word pcunt was probably slightly more significant in your day. These days its pretty common place (with friends at least), someone makes a rude comment, call them a "cheeky pcunt".

Tbh seeing people constantly call each other "mongs" on this board seems more offensive to me, even still not that bothered by it.

As I said, hearing the word pcunt doesn't offend me in real life, therefore it certainly doesn't offend me on the internet.
Bottom line: Someone calling someone else a pcunt on the internet is fairly insignificant.

Further. I respect that you think McDermott was great and that people should be more grateful but don't go on about it constantly. Personally I think Madejski should get far more credit on this board but the reality is if I posted Pro-Madejski comments every 5 seconds then the result would be that many other people would get annoyed and respect Madejski even less. The more people scream "McDermott is a God! Respect him you ungrateful pcunts!!!" the less people will respect McDermott.

Those constantly harping on about McDermott as a hero aren't enhancing his reputation but are tarnishing it.

We kinda looked like a Premier League football team (except in the final third which everyone knew was going to be our biggest weakness this season and still is) which is a pleasant change from most of the season.

And I am getting the feeling that NA will not get a fair shake from a good number of fans having to follow St. Brian no matter what he does. Brian is a good manager, and a manager I defended even after he was fired, and his style of play got us promoted (which NA has shown his style of play is able to do also) but it won't cut it if we want to get promoted and stay up. BUT HE IS GONE ALREADY, GET OVER IT FFS!

Give NA a decent budget and with the core of players he has I feel he will get us back up as soon as any available manager will.

Man Friday
RoyalTank . The first half of saints we played well,

What planet are you on? We played well for 10 mins max. We could have been 5-0 down at helf time and deservedly so.

What planet are you on more like?! We were undoubtedly the better team in the 1st half & should have gone ahead had Alfie not screwed that big chance up. As soon as they got the goal our heads dropped but to say they should have been 5-0 up at half time is pure fantasy.

I echo some of the sentiments on Blackman. He's working of the right wing was woeful and reminded my how much I miss Kebe.

We had moments towards the end of the first half where we looked good, getting many corners, but our finishing was a joke.

Depressing game.

I enjoyed Norwich itself though, intend to go back one day for more of a proper visit. Was at the CAMRA offical AGM and quaffed some Norfolk ales, had a look round the excellent market in front of City Hall.

Carrow Road is a great ground - one of my favs. The fans / stewards / general vibe about the place is always top notch.

Last time I went we effectively relegated them to League 1, Longy played a blinder & set us up for winner takes all v Brum on the final day....We really should have gone back up that year. :(

However all game I was surrounded by people saying 'get it forward' -

However, there is a differene between hoofball and passing forwards. Every time we put some good passes together, the likes of Karacan (Jack Russell on cocaine - but less effective) manage to pass it back to Mccarthy , sideways or backwards. McCleary's goal was one of the first times this season I've seen someone cut through the middle and take the fvckers on. Guthrie's corner folllowing the tw@t Snodgrass' fake cramp was woeful. Hate to say it but Jem is doing nothing different than Leigertwood but is far more lightweight. Norwich were no great shakes - any bit of pressure and their control went to pieces - problem was we didn't keep any pressure up due to the constant horizontal passing.

But sometimes you need to pass backwards or sideways to open up the space for a forward pass... Which is why the best teams in the world often find themselves passing it across the defence trying to find an opening. The more comfortable we get playing that way the quicker we'll move the ball and the sooner we'll find that space...but only if we stick to it and the fans show patience.

This is a very good thing.

Adkins asked for patience and he should get it. We will play better football under Adkins and hopefully the effectiveness will come in time.

This won't be a quick fix. We were down before Brian got sacked, and we're still going down now. This is about next season and Adkins imposing his style (and in the summer hopefully some of his players) on the club.

Very pleased to see that stat, even if today it only resulted in one fortunate goal.

The usuals like sandman and Mags will come along and bitch about 'but we still lost', but that's a pretty simple argument in a longer-term plan.

tbf there comments are based upon empirical evidence not subjective opinion about what may happen in the future

"£50 million needed", bet you don't get many job offers on Football manager.

Look at Norwich City's midfield today. Howson, Pilkington and Snodgrass all signed from Champ or League 1 for between £2-3 million each + Johnson from Champ on a free.

This is really the max amount needed per player to build a side capable of competing in the Prem. The fees for pretty good lower league players Marriappa and Gunter in pre-season, both £2.5 million (+ got McCleary on a free) were pretty standard, we should have done about 5 more tho.

If I was manager during the transfer window I'd look to retain 5 or 6 key players, and bring in 5 or 6 quality League 1 or Champ players that are around the £1-3 million mark. Keep a few fringe players and try and sell most of the dead weight first team.
Transfers in: ~ £20 million
Transfers out: ~ £5 million

Really, imo we need about £15 million investment in the Summer to build a very good team. £50 million would be ridiculous.

Not only ridiculous, but counter productive - that's buying players at 5-6m who would similarly demand very high wages. No problem with that in itself, but you'd have to wonder at their motivation in going to a Championship club, and you'd quesiton whether they'd perform. I think you're right - about £15m

Maguire The fact you think that's any kind of comparison just shows what a couple of chuntering spastics you are.

Do you think results stay the same no matter how often you play the fixture?

You're the type of pcunts who chair players off the pitch one minute then boo them the second they have a couple of bad games. Everything that is wrong with Reading fans right there.

Brian struggles against four teams, Adkins struggles against same four teams. Perfect grounds for comparison.

it isn't. Home/away - different playing personel - different weather etc etc you'll never be able to compare like for like (coupled with tiny sample size)
