Certainly not the most talented, quickest or skilful player ever to have played but what a career and attitude. Always gave everything and ever so proud to have represented his country. Goes to show what can be achieved with a lot of hard work and single minded determination to be the best that he could be. Great career and possibly the most flamboyant footballer since George Best.

Remember Lee Sharpe saying in his autobiography that he took Beckham along to one of his fan club meetings and as he was signing autographs his father said to Beckham that if Beckham trained hard that "one day you can have all this" to which Beckham replied that it wouldn't happen because there was "no way" he'd reach the popularity of Sharpe.

He has always been a humble guy despite all the fame & fortune. Every single person who has met the Beckhams & their kids always say how gracious & polite they are. He is probably the best role model the game of football has ever seen.

I hope one of his kids turns pro & does well - would be great to see a Beckham v2.

Think Waddle came across as a bit bitter. Said that Beckham had no tricks, then went on to say he that yes he could cross and was excellent with fre kicks. Two pretty good "tricks" there tbh tbf

Fantastic player, playing for England meant everything to him, and there were times he carried the team on his shoulders. Played for some of the best teams in the world as a result of unique footballing abilities, and remained ridiculously fit even at 37.

In Beckham, Scholes, Carragher, Owen and Harper retiring, the game as lost five exemplary professionals that today's prima-donnas (like David Bardsley the latest) could learn a thing or two from.
