exciting times?

by van13 » 27 Jun 2013 21:04

okay, so im expecting to get slated majorly for posting this but bear with me, and this is my first post so be gentle.

id like to see reading get away with some of the dead wood, and use the wage bill for other talent. so players id like to see out would be:
feds - great servant, but doesnt want to be back up (to a better keeper) so maybe time to cash in
taylor - as long as we dont offer him another contract
gorkks - look for a younger centre back that we can mould, ive heard rumours of sam hutchinson from chelsea, but the fact he retired at a young age then came back is abit worrying
leigertwood - i think theres better players we could get in like bridcutt (even though he wouldnt come cheap) but we have just signed danny williams
guthrie - didnt like him when we got him, felt like he just wanted his wages and was arrogant that he could walk straight into the team and stay there. but i think adkins can use him propely, and he had a good end to last season. but whispers are hull are eyeing him with a bid of 3-4 million, so id let him go if we got offered that.
kebe - (im prepared to be slated for this one) another great servant, but his age is getting to him a little, was great when he played last season, but just didnt play enough, maybe time to cash in while we can still get some money for him
carrico - good player, just 3 games that hes played looks like wasted money, no doubt of his ability and the fact that he was captain at lisbon should say something, but im not sure he wants to play in the championship
hrk - the top '4' man..... :S should stick him on the transfer list to see who bids for him, and when its only cardiff and hull, he can punch his brother in the middle of the face really hard
roberts - has been a great addition to the club, but at the moment i think hes just giving the physios a job to do, and cleverly took his extra year just before he found out he wasnt getting any better..... conviently
pogrebnyak - no doubt he has a relegation wage drop in his contract, and i dont think he did bad at all last season, was just lacking the sevice at times. perhaps a swap deal for another striker maybe?
mcleary - had.. moments last season, like most of the squad, just dont think he has the quality for the direction reading are heading
mcanuff - im personally still unsure on mcanuff, ive heard from people involved at reading that hes the practical joker, and didnt have to much respect for BM, and also that he doesnt think much of the fans, whether thats true or not i have no idea, but thats what ive heard. played well at the end of last season when he was played behind the striker
gunter - in my opinion we shoulve got clyne instead, was cheaper and twice the player

okay, im not saying get rid of every player, cause that would be insane. but with the way the club is heading ie antons vision i think that were in for an exciting time, the drenthe signing proves that. no doubt were gonna need these players in the championship.

players id like to see us sign:
HOOPER!!! obviously rumoured, and what a signing that would be, straight back into the prem with hooper and alfie banging them in.
mackay-steven - a great young player at dundee united, and has a flair that reading have been missing, would be cheap to, look at russell to derby for about 800k
redmond - another young winger, pretty much no chance it would happen but id love to see him in a reading shirt
okore - obviously no chance at hes gone to villa, but what a great player he looks
spelmann - if you want a versatile player then this is pretty much the guy, looks half decent and can literally play anywhere
gylfi - no brainer....
bridcutt - like i mentioned earlier, but would cost alot
jasmin kurtic - looks like a good player, cracking left foot, and has experience in serie A
a left back - to back up bridge
a centre back - weve got pearce, morrison and mariappa, just feel we need one more

exteremely happy with bridge, drenthe and williams signings. hopefully more to follow.

definitely exciting times at reading.

just thought id post this to see what people thought, and for the enevitable lynching im going to receive, hope you enjoy the read.

You have too much time on your hands and your writing is messy and horrible to look at, and for that reason I can't be bothered to to past the first line. But yes, I'm very excitable at the moment. I could positively pop, in fact!

Disagree with a fair few of these!

Feds: Didn't actually cost us anything so see no reason why we should have to get rid. If he is professional then he will stay and be back up... like McCarthy did for the last 2 years!

Guthrie: Will be amazing in the Champ. Look at what he did for Newcastle. One I really want to stay...but only if he is up for it.

Kebe: How dare you!!!

Carrico: The very fact he only played 3 games still leaves him with a point to prove and I liked what I saw in his last game of the season.

HKR: Will be in with a real chance of holding down a regular place this year and if we don't sign a striker, can fill that position comfortably.

McCleary: Was one of very few shining lights last season! will be amazing in the champ. Regular started for me.

McAnuff: No longer a starter for me, but a solid back up and can play in the middle, so should stay.

Gunter: Although he frustrated the hell out of me last season, he is good player in the champ that any team in the league would have if given the chance. i dont think we should get to ahead of ourselves just yet.

Get rid of Guthrie, Kebe, HRK, McLeary, Carrico and McAnuff? Bad start.
Furthermore Pogrebnyak would, if he stayed, shit on Championship defenders. Gunter is a more-than capable championship player who has shown plenty of glimpses of promise.

You could have made that whole thing much easier on the eye, by the way. What's wrong with capital letters, apostrophes and general formatting?

So you would get rid of 4 proven wingers at this level, one being our captain & one who can clearly tear up the championship, only 29, in Kebe (he was rushed back last season, no doubt causing further injury). Leaving us with one winger Drenthe. Then replace them with Redmond, who was Sooooo good in the u21's and Championship last season and a Scottish guy who is completly unproven at this level?

Then you moan about not getting Clyne, whats the point in that? get over it, we will never get him. Gunter again is proven in the Championship, as well as Kelly.

Guthrie is going to be pivital in our push for immediate return to the top flight in my opionion. Under the right managment and philosophy (take a bow Adkins) he will excel this season (look at his time at Newcastle in the champ).

Daft post.

So you clearly didn't attend any matches last season then?

McCleary: one of our stand out performers last season.
McAnuff: Club captain and a great person to have around the place
Guthrie: Our best player of the adkins era so far, you'd be a fool if you wanted to see him leave.
Pogrebnyak: If we are prepared to pay his wages, he should 100% be staying, will easily score 15-20 goals.
HRK: Every player aspires to play at the highest level, however he has said he is commited to Reading and next season he will be very valuable to any promotion push we have.
Caricco: Although wouldn't be too disappointed to see him go, can't say he will not do well in the championship!

And all of the above are in your words "Deadwood"

So on this basis F*CK OFF

Agree with all. Amazing how some people are so quick to judge Pogrebnyak when he had f**k all service last season.

Judge Drenthe You have too much time on your hands and your writing is messy and horrible to look at, and for that reason I can't be bothered to to past the first line.

How utterly discourteous of you. Feel free to disregard the post/thread, that is of course your prerogative. But to provide your own critique of a post that you cannot be bothered to read is ignorant in the extreme. Typical of how cliquey this board is is that the fella had to apologise profusely for his temerity in contributing a post.

I can't believe that in your long list of players to get rid off you left out Karacan. If we're being truly ruthless then surely you get rid of your least able players first.

Getting rid of all 4 of our proven wingers, a striker that won us the Championship and another with the most talent we've seen in years, and our best central midfielder?

Not nice to see people tearing into the guy so much, but admittedly when you post a topic on here you are walking into the lion's den and if the post is as contrived as this one then you have it coming.

I mean, getting rid of Guthrie (best CM), HRK (best winger), and also team players that add great depth like McCleary, McAnuff and Gunter, as well as the striker with the most ability here (Pogrebnyak), you can't get rid of an entire team, not sure where you are coming from here.
