Lovely hot donuts! I'm not convinced that three centre backs would be sufficient. This is probably the position most liable to both injuries and suspensions so I reckon we should have a fourth player who can comfortably play there in the championship. Particularly if Carrico goes as well because he is our only other senior player with experience at centre back. Whilst we have some good young CBs, I don't know that it'd be a good idea to play any of them in the Championship. So yeah, my point is, if he goes we will need to look to bring in a replacement.

Except for Leigterwood who started his career there, he has played CB for every club he has played for before joining RFC

Legs is the new Bryn

http://www.holmesdale.net/page.php?id=82&story=1993
Wimbledon defender Mikele Leigertwood turned down better money to sign for Palace this week in a £150,000 deal, which Dons manager Stuart Murdoch described as a "steal", writes Joseph O'Shea.
The 21-year-old centre back became Iain Dowie’s first permanent transfer for Palace, when he signed a two-and-half-year contract on Monday.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news ... twood-move
"He's a player I've been interested in for a long time," Warnock told Sheffield United's official website.
"He's had experience of playing in The Premiership with Crystal Palace and he can play a number of positions.
"He can anchor midfield and has played both full back positions or as a centre half in the top flight.

Ok, I'm ignorant I admit.
However, there's a decent chance Legs won't be here. But, I guess, if he is here then we might not be so needy of a replacement for Gorkss should he go.

No point in having an academy producing quality young CBs if you aren't willing to give them a chance to be 4th choice.

Get down lot from Cambridgeshire to see these "quality young CBs" do you?

From what I've seen of our youngsters in Youth Cup and Under 21 games there is promise but they still have plenty to improve on, have conceded some truly awful goals and are not ready for being even 4th choice CB for a club hoping to challenge for promotion to the PL.

Oh but what about Hector? You cry. Well, he has been only been on loan to one League 1 side for whom he only played 8 times and the rest of the time barring a stint at Cheltenham he's played for struggling League 2 clubs.

Norfolk Royal I'd drive him there if I knew where Huddersfield was or if I had a satnav.

Have you forgotten how solid he was in our championship winning season?

Have you forgotten that was 2 years ago? He was so far off the pace last season we were cringing. The only person blind to it was McDermott. He then went to Wolves on loan and they absolutely hated him. In fact, they said he made them worse! I think it's time to move on.

Fair point. I just think that he could be a decent squad player or back up CB for this season just incase we get injuries or suspensions. Agreed however that he was completely out of his depth in the Premier League.

by UpNorth » 23 Jul 2013 07:54

In the Sun today

Leeds United boss Brian McDermott is ready to raid former club Reading for 31-year-old defender Kaspars Gorkss and will offer £450,000.

Just had a check on their forum. They think they're as big as WoLOLves and so if they dont want him, neither do Brentford.

Would be interesting to see if LUFC bid for him, for no other reason than to see if they actually do have £450k to spend on anybody.

Agreed, they did. However, since then the rumblings have started again that they don't have much money, and didn't BM himself say something about selling to buy? Also saw some comments on their forum about their fans not being impressed that BM had spent a Million on a position where they felt they had resources.

Got to sell to buy and Bates claimed this week that the new owner is making all the decisions for players in and out. I don't imagine BM to be very happy working under those circumstances (if they're true).

Bates got the long walk off the short pier earlier this week........ http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/jul/26/ken-bates-leaves-leeds-united

Sure there was a longer version of this story, which suggested that the club borrowed some money earlier this year to pay the wages.
