Rooney 7
Lampard 4
Welbeck 4

A good contribution to the campaign, but surely even you can see he has been off for these last two games.

Can't really count last night tbf. I didn't see Friday's game as I was out in London. However, Gerrard was pretty poor last night albeit he scored right near the end. He gives the ball away far too much, once was nearly costly as Poland nearly scored on the counter from his bad pass. It's not the first time he's done that either. Carrick was decent however.

Gerrard is the captain and England's best midfield option. Lampard is too pedestrian and has always been second best to Gerrard. I wouldn't include him in the World Cup squad.

Dis'greed with all of that, other than the fact that Gerrard is the captain.

You can't have Gerrard and Lampard in the same team, but Gerrard would get the nod over Lampard.

I thought it was a good time to bring Lampard on last night, his experience and know how should've been ideal in closing out the game, but he was guilty of losing the ball more in that time than I think Gerrard had over the whole game.

He's been a key player for England over the years, and you just can't knock his record as a goalscoring midfielder. However, his legs are going and like last night I don't think he's that adept at coming off the bench so I think his days are numbered and Brazil might well be out of his reach (although I thought his England career had been finished a while back now so Hodgson may well keep him around).

I'd like to place on record my personal thanks to Frank for his two key goals against Moldova, and most importantly his strike in our 8-0 win over San Marino.

Extended-Phenotype EDIT: Always interesting that, when Frank is taking some criticism, Chelsea fans bring up Gerrard for some reason.

Agreed. I wasnt debating Gerrard, I was saying Lampard hasnt looked good. And yet Kes still brings up another player..

Look above you on the page of this post m8 - it was the Liverpool fan Sanguine who first mentioned Gerrard.

You're ridiculing those goals as if it's easy - if it's that easy, why did he score more than your poster boy Gerrard?

So he sank a few goals. Doesn't have the breadth of quality a midfielder needs to make crunch games.

That's why Carrick was picked ahead of him. Never seen England play with such cohesion, at such pace and create as many chances than that in a long time - the depth of quality in the Carrick/Gerrard midfield pairing has been thanked for that.

Lamps is good for playing against San Marino though, cos he can kick a ball really hard, which is pretty cool.

Lampard was complete jokes last night. I am no huge fan of Carrick, but the difference between his steady sideways passing and Frank's lumbering, possession-conceding-and-getting-booked effort was embarassing.

Good player in his prime who never fit well together with Gerrard for England. Gerrard's good(ish) performance last night proved he still has the mettle for one last World Cup. Lampard should be put out to pasture. Those who laud him are a little like those people who turned up for Elvis Presley's various rather tragic come-back gigs in the 1970s :(

And he looks like he smells of fart. I've never seen a person look so much like they smell of fart.

Is this the same Carrick everyone had been lambasting over the last few years. Comes in, does a steady job last night and suddenly he's the answer to our midfield.

You guys remind me of the character Paul Whitehouse played situated in a boozer - where he's constantly changing his mind.

The problem with Carrick is that he's great when things are going well for his team but as soon as they come under a lot of pressure or they're not in control of a game he's a bit of a passenger.

Wilshire and Gerrard will, injury permitting, be the two central midfielders for England for the immediate future. The likes of Cleverly, Carrick, Rodwell, and perhaps even Huddlestone, McEachran, Livermore, Chalobah etc etc will be competing for Gerrards place after he lifts the World Cup in Brazil!

(2 smilies = 2 points.)

Don't recall lambasting him. Not saying he's the answer either.

Just pointing out that Frank ain't.

Yeah - in a must win game, who'd have thought it that England would create a lot of goalscoring chances
