Hoop Blah
blueroyals Would rather we didn't get him. Hector has looked good so far and can provide cover for the next few weeks until Morrison is back.

Hector has hardly played, how can he look good in such a short amount of time, let alone good enough to rule out signing a player that is young, talented and with a good amount of experience of success at this level.

Long term we need to replace Gorkss and this deal could be be ideal for that as he'll bring proven ability and he's young. Pearce, Hobbs and Morrison would be good options with Hector adding a little depth.

Hctor has shown in his recent cameos for us, and his games for Aberdeen, that he has class, composure and considerable potential. He has the ability to surpass Pearce, Gorkss and Morrison. We've nurtured this lad for a long time. He's got a big future. We need to make sure he doesn't slip through our net. I would give him a run in the starting 11 at the expense of Gorkss and show him he has a big future with us and doesn't need to return to the Granite City to fulfil his potential.

So we had no money to extend the contract for Baird , no money to get Sharp, and there is absolutely no money to buy players...oh and btw we have had a bid accepted for Hobbs. All makes perfect sense to me.

Agree, totally ridiculous. Don't know what to believe any more. I'm just accepting no-one is coming in, that way I can only be surprised come Feb 1st.

There will be surprise when we announce 11pm Friday that we have sold McCarthy, Pog, ALF and McCleary for a combined 20M and have brought in no one.

Yeah, it'll certainly be a shock for me to find I'm living in fantasy land.

Are you speaking directly to Hobbs in the hope that he might be reading this?

Seriously, he's played 15 minutes for us against teams that were 7-1 and 5-1 down and beaten into submission. He's not looked out of place no, but he's also had no pressure and nothing worthwhile to do so can't be judged on those appearances.

Why would we extend the contract atm for Baird when he's injured and has supposedly had a couple of setbacks? Maybe we didn't see Sharp as value for money as a squad player (he's currently 3rd choice behind Pog and ALF on current form), or maybe if he wasn't guaranteed to play every week he decided to look elsewhere.

I agree the Hobbs deal looks strange, but can't he play defensive mid as well? It also smacks a bit of the Morrison signing a few years ago, i.e. don't really need him until at least the summer but don't want to miss out on him. It doesn't really matter though as I don't see him joining us over Leicester or Forest.

As I've said elsewhere I'm more concerned about keeping the players we have as we have a good chance of the playoffs with what we've got. Even if we brought players in it's unlikely we can win automatic promotion this season.

Indeed not, but I also made reference to the 20 odd appearances he has made this season for Aberdeen during which he only ended up on the losing side 4 or 5 times. As for dropping Gorkss to give him a run, it's a bit like Feds v McCarthy. Both are perfectly capable but one is the past and one is the future.

So you watched a lot of those Aberdeen games then?

I was initially responding to blueroyals who said he'd looked good so far, but the point still stands. Doing alright with Aberdeen is great, they did seem impressed and wanted him to stay, but we've seen over many years how jumping from the SPL to the Championship isn't easy for a lot of players.

I've seen nothing in Hector to say he's good enough to step up and consistently start games for us yet. I've also not seen enough to say he isn't good enough, so I'm not writing him off, just saying it's daft to judge him good enough to either not get Hobbs or drop Gorkss when we've (the fans that is, I'm sure the club have a very good idea) seen relatively nothing of him so far.

Wigan apparently leading the pack now. The most underwhelming of the four chasing clubs. £

Very well summed up.
Hector looks much more athletic than what we already have but we have no idea how strong he is.

Seems those confidently stating that Hector is the answer to our defensive needs based on a few cameos are trying to convince themselves as they want to believe it. Big step up to the Chump from the SPL, and although we all want him to succeed, he is a long way off being convincing.

We do have a tendency to get over excited about our academy players...Neville Roach anyone ?

He's also nearing the end of his contract and believes that he deserves 1st team football. May be tough to keep hold of him as he's very much our 4th choice.
