Had an interesting conversation with a Thai friend at work yesterday, who is also a big Reading fan.

He believes that this proposed takeover will all end in tears due to the political unrest in his country and the military becoming more and more involved. He thinks that SJM should have gone with the alleged US bid and hopes that this has been a decision from the head and not from the heart.

My friend's family all still live Thailand and things are apparently worse over there than gets reported over here.

I think that this must have been a well thought out decision by SJM and I am sure that his advisers must have taken this all into consideration.

God I hope this all works out.....

Why would this affect anything about the takeover ?

The Thai authorities could freeze his funds, arguably.

In the short term it probably won't but it can make it more and more difficult to move money out of the country. My friend was talking more about long term ownership.

I don't think you can really think of drivel as a genuine watercourse, but thanks for your contribution nonetheless.

You'd think any savvy Thai b/millionaires would have made sure their assets were well protected, it's not as if the current situation there is anything new.

Interesting comments on twitter from Charlie Watts regarding the new Leyton Orient owner and his looking at Reading at little while ago.
