Maguire
starliaison The word we've had is GET THERE EARLY - treat it as if it were a 7.15pm KO (the real KO is 7.45pm).

There won't be any non-permit parking available at the stadium.

The game is a sell-out or near as dammit with 4,000 away fans and TV trucks everywhere so there's going to be every bit as much pressure on time and space as there used to be for midweek Prem matches.

This message applies to Reading and Bradford City fans.

So the message is that an FA Cup quarter final is going to be a bit busy?

Thanks.

There's just a feeling out there that we've all got a bit casual and used to rolling up to 8pm KO's with just a half-full stadium to contend with. And the BBC aren't likely to be delaying KO and giving Lawro 15 minutes of dead air time to fill while thousands search every nook and cranny of Bennett Road for a parking spot.

No Fixed Abode
Barney
No Fixed Abode I hope Bradford fans are as complimentary about Reading as Reading fans were about Bradford. "What a shithole"

Give it a rest boy. Still bitter about them shoving 4 past Chelski in your back yard ?

Not at all. I didn't call Bradford a shithole, some of your fans did. I actually want Bradford to win the FA Cup as it's the 30th anniversary of the Bradford City fire. Would be rather nice.

At least some of the Bradford fans on here agreed it was a shithole.

Warfield North Stand I saw zero trouble all day. I walked to and from the station and drank in the city beforehand. Maybe some people just look for it??

LWJ looks for it.

I do recall a televised evening cup game against Liverpool where thousands missed the kickoff due to traffic congestion followed by turnstile chaos. It's tough for some to get home from work and get there early but certainly if you can allow extra time it could work to everyone's benefit

A couple of us will be down there by mid afternoon, are there any decent pubs in the town centre for away fans? Or where away fans are welcome.

Cheers.

The Three Guineas at the train station is traditionally an away pub.

Not sure about elsewhere, being an exile, these days.

Had the exact same question myself, turns out it's the chicken thing that sits on top of their badge.

Not sure if it lends itself to 'bantam weight' as in boxing? Other than that I'd never heard of it.

The Monks Retreat was pretty good when we played at Reading. Saying that we didn't wear any colours but there were a few Forest fans in there. It's a bit cheaper than the Three Guineas being a Wetherspoons pub.

Bantams are miniature breeds of chicken.

You could try the Greyfriar - fairly new (therefore quite trendy interior) but decent for real ales, and very close to the station

There's always good banter at the Frog and Pickle, Manchester Road.

Landlord prepares complementary quiche and scotch eggs ftw.

The Club are asking for a Sea of Scarves  when we play Sweet Caroline  just before kick off, and scarves are reduced to £3.50 in the Megastore and all official outlets.
The band will be back again in the North Stand  , after helping the atmosphere against Brighton on Tuesday night. We will also have more musicians outside the ground before the game.

how embarrassing, on the telly as well, FFS

if anybody was wondering, the 'musicians' outside the ground will be failed xfactor boyband Concept :!: :!: :!:

Better than staring at the away fans for 90 minutes whilst totally ignoring the game.

Funny* to see the Bradford fans claiming we "copied" them with the sea of scarves thing when we already did it a couple of seasons ago against Leeds.

*obvs not funny ha ha

Wishing I hadn't had to book Y19 now, stupid band. And the club can stick their sea of scarves too.

Take this with you and stick some earphones in whilst you are at it.

Win win and home from home.

There are some people who use that gag well, keeping it funny with good timing and style.
There are some people who just spam it endlessly and unimaginatively.

You are not one of the funny ones.

The above message was sponsored by the joy police.

Band was truly excellent at Brighton, thought the occasional added sound effects were a) amusing and b) original. Therefore hoping that that is persisted with even if the tunes die away. That would then be something unique to this club as I've not heard other "bands" doing that.

Sea of scarves is an old idea - I'm presuming it's something that actually goes back to when football was proper and well before the game became tainted by the likes of SKY and the PL. I'm actually all for it as it's simple and does look good when there are no empty seats.

Unfortunately would look rather naff to do it at a league game this season.

It depends what you mean by a decent pub, if you want cheap there are 4 'spoons. If you want traditional real ale the best is a walk to the Nags Head, or Allied Arms. There's also Walkabout, ONeils, Yates which apparently lager drinkers like. The best away atmosphere will be the 3 Guineas.

Make sure some joker doesn't recommend the Rising Sun.
