Certainly can't begrudge him the move though, to secure a transfer to a club like that after injured for most of the last few seasons takes some doing.

It's a good move for all concerned. Jem joins a club playing in the Champions League next season and he'll benefit greatly in terms of wages along with the playing opportunities presented for such a big move. RFC were well within the rights to reserve doubt about his fitness and offer him the contract they did. It's another of the Premier League wages off the payroll.

I wish Jem every success, clearly this is a bit of a dream move for him
I do wonder how many games he'll play and how much he's had to settle for in wages. I don't know what sort of money the Turkish sides pay for squad players but I would think he's not going there for the cash....

Sa has already signed, just needs to be announced. Cardiff have been linked with a move for Quinn, hardly sounds like they're about to take him from under our noses.

I heard the Sa to Derby rumours yesterday, tried to look for anything news related about it and came up trumps. Sounds like someone was just on the windup.

Ian Royal Yeah, great move. I'm a little less sad to see him go than Fed or, particularly, Pearce but still a very good and incredibly important player over the years.

Hope he has a very successful time there.

genome Personally, out of the three I'm most gutted to see Jem go. I know he hasn't played much but I was always a fan. Him and Pearce were the closest to a "Mr Reading" we had in the team... I understand we are going through a necessary complete rebuild but it may take a while for me to identify with the team as a fan!

Totally agree with the Mr Reading comparision, although I always thought there was a lot of running around with him and not a lot of end product - should probably have scored more goals. I think Feds will turn out to be the one we miss the most... and yes, it is going to be strange for a while to see the team with a few less familar faces... still we move on :|

The days of players caring more about the team then themselves are long gone. Their number one priority is not Reading FC, it's not even football, it's their salary. I imagine that Karacan would push shopping trolleys at Swindon Tesco is they offered him £20k a week.

The loyalty or community aspect of the games is slowly being replaced by a different concept that football should simply be mutually beneficial form of entertainment. The fans should enjoy the game experience, the players should be rich and famous, the broadcasters should get subscribers, the advertisers should increase their brand awareness and everyone else should make as much money as possible.

Depressingly accurate post Elm Park Kid.

Oh for the days of Elm Park with a bottle of Red Card soft drink

I wonder how we would accomod8 Sa, Pog and Donaldson? Sure one of them would be benched regularly. And what about Simon Cox?

He off-loaded Cox at West Brom and he didn't seem to keen on playing him here, I'd wager he'll try and off-load him again.

Indeed brendy, of course he's going there in part for the money.

They've offered him a 3 year deal, probably on more per week than he could've earned here, and that's even without taking into account the gamble he'd have been making on signing a contract with an element of appearance based pay.

So, at a guess, he's probably guaranteed himself 3 times his money by taking the move, one that he'd probably have jumped at to a certain extent anyway.

Hope he didn't jump too fast or he may have ruptured his ACL again ...

So would I.

This loyalty thing is a crock of shite. The players aren't fans, its their job and a potentially very short career. They may have a team they supported as a kid that they'd love to play for and may well have a fondness for a club if they've been there a long time but its still just a job.

The Sa signing, irrespective of whether he's a success or not, is a great sign.

Clarke has been willing to pay money out on a forward when we have others already on the books and so that tells me he's confident he can address the other gapping holes in the squad with either limited or zero spend or that the owners are giving him a decent war chest.

Promising signs.
