You're the one larging it, m9. Yes, CHELSEA HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THE BIGGER CLUB. So your point of comparing attendances with us IS completely POINTLESS. The pre-Russian LOLs are cos of the rather small attendances you had in the Eighties :D

In other news, watched the Paul Canoville Black and Blue documentary this week. Racist chants from his own fans. Utter disgrace.

Not small, kind of like a London-based Aston Villa.

Villa are a big club, more like West Brom.

Not a big club =/= smaller than Reading.

We're now middling, we were definitely small historically. Chelsea have only got big in the last 10 - 15 years and they're still not on a par with the likes of Utd, Liverpool or Arsenal by any stretch of the imagination.

Chelsea have appealed the Cortois red card.
How ?
Mistaken identity ?
Is there the option to increase the ban for a silly appeal ?
Is Shane Watson on the Chelsea staff ?

Brosef Stalin so i've basically cnuted myself right off there

It wasn't actually called the Simod Cup when they won it so technically you're not a twat.

It is scant solace for a basic mistake however.

I hope you are right, because it was close to being a coward's tackle that deserved a straight red anyway, as well as being a professional foul.

The appeals committee are often a bit like Kamara and come down on the side of the player, so it's definitely worth a punt. The ball was going to the corner flag, so it might not literally be a direct goal-scoring opportunity.

Have to say I agree with Kes here! They were a small club before Zola and middling club before Abramovich.

If they decide that it's a frivolous appeal they can slap an extra game ban on it.

I don't see how they can appeal. If Courtois didn't foul him as he went past then he'd have the ball 16 yards from goal with no keeper in the way. It hardly matters that there's a defender coming back to cover as that's still a pretty clear goalscoring opportunity in my book.

Referees should consider the following circumstances when deciding whether to send off a player for denying a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity:
• the distance between the offence and the goal - 18 yards, so no grounds
• the likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball - under no challenge and would have been kept within playing distance it if he hadn't been hacked
• the direction of the play - only chance of appeal succeeding, but IMO as no player on the line I can't see it - we weren't talking an Andy Johnson special here.
• the location and number of defenders - defender coming across, but unlikely to be able to stop any kind of effort on goal .

I did expect to see Keslar complaining about it, but it really is about as cut and dried a penalty/red card as it gets, imho.

EDIT - carelessness

It was a foul however, Cahill was in a covering position so it shouldn't have been a red card. Simple.

Also questionable as to whether it was a penalty as it was right on the line. If in doubt you don't give a penalty. Two mistakes by Michael Oliver on this occasion.

*On a related note - we were harshly given cards for diving last season. Good to see David Silva getting away with a blatant one last night.
