Reading chief executive Nigel Howe said the the move was "the right thing for all parties concerned" having failed to reach a new contract with the player after five months of negotiations.

"This deal will also allow us the chance to potentially re-invest in the first team this month, helping the manager to bolster his squad should the right opportunities arise during the transfer window," Howe said.

the "potentially re-invest" and "should the right opportunities arise" do not inspire optimism

Brentford sold their top scorer and they've coped ok - in fact they've probably benefited from it as they no longer rely on one player to score all their goals

but saying - we will definitely reinvest., regardless of the opportunities would be a ridiculous ting to say too. even if you really really meant it

Brendy, the word "potentially" is just one caveat too many in

This deal will also allow us the chance to potentially re-invest

"...........chance to re-invest" would suffice

Would you have preferred " reinvest regardless if it is the right opportunity"? I wouldn't as that implies we just spend for the sake of it.

if internet remtards didn't always go off on autistic argument over words, potentially he probably would have cut back on the caveats slightly, givn the opportunity

Even with the potentially too many mongs are going to expect us to spend that entire Fee on a new player.

Personally think it's a superb deal for the club, never warmed to the bloke, seemed to have Cristiano Ronaldo's attitude without the ability to back it up. We'll be better of without, and wouldn't be at all surprised to see him flop massively at Derby.

After he's scored his brace against us next week, of course.

We're not going up this year.
Blackman would've been off in the summer for free anyway.
Better to cash in now & build for the long term.

Should've waited until next Wednesday though.

Reinvest? Or clawing some losses back having spunked an absolute fortune in fees/wages we can't afford on foreign loans that have largely and predictably been a complete disaster?

Hoop Blah Interesting wording within that statement.

Pretty much emphasising that he's been pretty shit apart from his two month purple patch and that the club had given him a great platform to progress on.

Also interesting that they basically gave up on trying to get him to sign a new contract and so didn't want to lose him for nothing.

well played RFC.

Exactly

You have to wonder how disruptive he may have been to the other players during the contract dispute, too.

This article is from October 19th - http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... t-10285814 - we then went on a run of 5 games without a win.

Do you really think that any club would discuss a players ego with another if they wanted to buy him?

WoodleyRoyal Nick Blackman 18 goals in 113 apps
Simon Church 22 Goals in 104

LOL

At least half a dozen of those goals were penalties weren't they?

Not that I'm knocking him for that, in fact the thing I'll miss the most is that we finally found ourselves a penalty taker you could hang your hat on and now he's moved on.

I heard* the Thais were thoroughly unimpressed with his antics after the goal against Brizzle and let it be known he was not the type of character they wanted around the club. Completely ruined Lady S's enjoyment of Chase The Sun.

* I haven't

What would be Reading's league position this season if you took Blackman's goals away?
