Rumour that we are after the out of favour Norwich RB.

If so is this as cover or as a replacement for Gunter?

I would be sorry to see Gunter go but we do need cover and/or competition for the RB slot. Whittaker has had 30 caps for Scotland (against Gunter's 64 caps for Wales - about comparable?) and significant Premier League experience so he could be a useful signing.

He gets a lot of goals for a right back

Not a bad player - could be a decent addition.

Sun says this morning we're after Norwich right back Steven Whittaker.

Oh dear no thanks.

There's a reason he's currently third in the pecking order at Norwich for that position, behind Andre Wisdom and Ivan Pinto.

It's because he's low table championship standard, became boo boy for Norwich fans.

Sounds like a like-for-like swap for Gunts then. Get him in!

Have seen him play a lot when he was up here at Rangers, not the most popular at that time a bit of an accident waiting to happen, yes he does attack a lot but then forgets to go back and defend ! My Rangers supporting colleagues did find it amusing, almost funny, that we would be the slightest bit interested in him. At least he would be an able replacement for Gunts in the player most hated by the Reading mafia.

Probably a better midfield raider than a defender.

Good player, would chip in with a lot of assists and a couple of goals for someone who is a defender.

I like his style and I think it would be a good fit with the way we play.

If by that you mean making poor back passes, frequently being outpaced or caught out of position, shanking the ball into touch, passing to the opposition when not under pressure, then I would agree with you.

 This is someone who has played in a Europa League Final before for those forgetting (funnily enough against The Pog!)

Not sure whether you've ever seen him play, but I sit in an office where for the last couple of years I've sat there listening to several season ticket holders at Norwich coming in on a Monday morning moaning about how rubbish Whittaker is and how he cost them the game with his mistakes, etc. Finally, despite him being one of the managers favourites because he's Scottish, Whittaker was dropped.

I've also seen him play a dozen or so times and could only agree with what the Norwich fans said about him.

If this signing goes through they'll see it as rich payback for them signing Andy Hughes for £500k, which still rankles with them tbf.

He was defending against Pogrebnyak? Sorta shot your point in the foot a bit there...

Been told by a Norwich supporting mate that they are currently looking for defenders with one or more of these three traits:
*Can tackle
*Can head
*Has positioning sense

He was unable to confirm Whittaker ticked any of them. He said he's quite hard working and scores a few, and played most of their promotion season.

It wasn't a ringing endorsement.

Change two words and it's same shit, different club. Not saying Whitaker is any good but what's to say you're not sitting with Norfolk's answers to royalblue and Floyd?

Whittaker is not going to happen. McDermott wants Gunter to stay, and Gunter wants to stay. New contract will be signed by Gunter sooner than later.
