The standard of the league back then was absolutely piss poor bollocks to what it is now? How many teams are even still in the championship from back then and how many higher or lower?
Don't know. Arguably 3 of those PL teams could be in the Champ next season. It's probably worse then than it is now, it is a harder league now. But I don't knowmuirinho wrote:7 (Burnley, Watford, Southampton, Leicester, Crystal Palace, Hull, Stoke) all currently PLdouble d wrote:OR MAYBE

6 (Coventry, Luton, Sheffield Utd, Argyle, Crewe, Milwall) lower divisions
12 championship
think that makes it better rather than worse. No?
There are always an even amount of teams in the league m8.Silver Fox wrote:There were 25 teams in the championship that year?
Er, yeah. Prejudging the relegation race, I accidentally included Hull in my Championship tally first time round, noticed and put it in the PL list, but forgot to reduce the Championship total.Silver Fox wrote:There were 25 teams in the championship that year? No wonder people find it so hard to beat 106 these days
Possibly, but could also have 2 or 3 of the Championship teams from that season in the PL. Proves nothing either waydouble d wrote: Don't know. Arguably 3 of those PL teams could be in the Champ next season.
So basically you have no clue, but want to try and denigrate their achievement regardless. Excellent hobnobbing.double d wrote:It's probably worse then than it is now, it is a harder league now. But I don't know
Said every year. From Despair To Where? wrote:I don't think it is a stronger league this season. The Top 6 in 2006 was stronger, the bottom 6 were stronger and the middle 12 were much of a muchness in comparison to this season. Also, if you look at the teams likely to swap places at the top and the bottom this season, next season is going to be a much bigger challenge.
Rings a vague bell. From Despair To Where? wrote:Was it Ian Holloway who said of the 106 team something along the lines of "we scouted them and the scout came back and said they have no weaknesses. That's never happened before. I said so how do we beat them and he said with a hell of a lot of luck"
Surely that implies the overall strength of the league is better as a team with their qualities aren't pulling up any trees?Davezk wrote:People always overestimate the strength of the league. What have Villa done this season for example? (Aside from beat us)
Or they just aren't that good, or are packed with players who can't be arsed.CountryRoyal wrote:Surely that implies the overall strength of the league is better as a team with their qualities aren't pulling up any trees?Davezk wrote:People always overestimate the strength of the league.
