This just highlights how good the 106 team really were - Newcastle have a hugely expensive side and are probably the best resourced side to have been in this league for a while - there's still 10 games to go and even if they win them all, they can't match the class of 2006.

Because, for all their millions of £££'s spunked on all but guaranteeing promotion in individually very good players, they're not as good a team as the 106 side. In fact, IMO they're not even as good a team as Brighton who are by far and away the most well-meshed unit I have seen at this level since that Coppell side.

Don't know. Arguably 3 of those PL teams could be in the Champ next season. It's probably worse then than it is now, it is a harder league now. But I don't know

Er, yeah. Prejudging the relegation race, I accidentally included Hull in my Championship tally first time round, noticed and put it in the PL list, but forgot to reduce the Championship total.

I don't think it is a stronger league this season. The Top 6 in 2006 was stronger, the bottom 6 were stronger and the middle 12 were much of a muchness in comparison to this season. Also, if you look at the teams likely to swap places at the top and the bottom this season, next season is going to be a much bigger challenge.

Comparing the strength of the league from one season to the next is utterly futile.

Watching highlights of some of the thrashings we handed out that season does expose some terrible defending, but I guess that's the nature of the beast. I don't watch the matches where the other team successfully shut up shop and kept us out.

Obviously hard to say, but based on Newcastle's showing here the other week, I think the 106 side would comfortably beat them over two legs.

We even had strength in depth with Lita and Long upfront, Hunt and Oster on the wings, Gunnarsson in midfield and Makin at fullback. It's not like we didn't have injuries either. Kitson, Doyle, Lita, Sidwell, Shorey and Murty all spent time in the treatment room.

Or they just aren't that good, or are packed with players who can't be arsed.

I've seen nothing in the league this season to suggest the quality has improved since 2006.

IMO the quality of the league has reduced. More teams come to the Madejski now and just look for a point or score on the break than I remember in the past. You could say they are better tactically but I think it shows shortcomings in the opposition that they are happy to sit deep and take a point rather than come and make a game of it. Most teams who have attacked us this year could have taken all the points (though the vast majority didn't). I don't sit at games very often these days and think "they're a good team" in respect of the opposition and feel as though we didn't deserve something out of the game

(Or perhaps that's just my blue and white tinted specs)
