Matchwatch : Colchester United (a) sponsored by a general lack of interest in the media

Yes it's the return of the "hijacked" Associate Members Cup.

Reading's U21s will be augmented by a few on the fringe from the first team squad and do business with a reasonably useful Colchester at their shiny reasonably new ground just off the A12 on Tuesday evening (kick off is 7.30pm).

A new ground for those that didn't bother going to the League Cup game there a few seasons back and certainly a feather in the cap for anyone making the trek to deepest Essex

Presuming the line up will be something along the lines of

Legg
Andresson
Osho
Howe
Medford-Smith
Rinomhota
Barrett
East
Frost
Loader
Smith

Others maybe

Southwood
McIntyre
Holsgrove
Sheppard
Rollinson

Be interesting to see who from the main first team squad will be added - Mendes? Think Wieser will miss out if he's been called up by Liechtenstein

Last season all these games were covered live on BBC Berkshire and they apparently really enjoyed them so be interesting to see if that continues this season.

Either way go along if your in the area it's great to see and support the youngsters in a competition where a win is just a nice thing to get rather than the be all and end all.

Apparently the winner of the game tonight gets £10k and if it's a draw both sides get £5k

For the record Colchester is currently leading 1-0, after 15 minutes, through Sammy Szmodics

Line up is

Legg
Osho
Medford-Smith
Andresson
Holmes
Frost
East
Barrett
Smith
House
Holsgrove

No-one covering live other than BBC Radio Essex, if you're in Essex, and those with ifollow subscriptions.

LOvely to see House, Holmes and Barrett all in the team.

Some great foundations on which to build....

I'd have thought Josh Barrett would be captaining.

Hope all the games go to pens, good experience for the kids. That's what this is all about. Wins are nice but secondary.

CountryRoyal I thought someone said that Martin Kuhl had left?

They did, and it was immediately pointed out to them that it was his son who had moved on.....

Cool. Ta for clearing that up.

Anyway shame about the result always nice to win but great experience for the kids, especially re penalties.

Any idea how good the Colchester side was? I presume they probably made a few changes as well but how close was their starting XI to what their fans would expect for a league game?
