Can understand why he hasnt been picked by Clement, and can also see that Germany seem to be offering a lot more opportunities to young players at the moment. If true, Loader would be a fool not to go there

But its also time for PC to be proactive and start making space for him in the squad. Aluko (obvs) can certainly make way for him on the bench

We're not struggling for goals though.

Bodvarsson has 7 in 7(4) = 1 goal every start.
Meite has 6 in 14(2) = 1 goal every 2.3 starts
Baldock has 4 in 12(2) = 1 goal every 3 starts
Total 17 goals from 33 starts = 1 goal every 1.9 starts from our main strikers, and two of them have played half their games as wide forwards / wingers.

Not only that, but from what I've seen, Loader doesn't offer particularly similar things to Bod and Meite.

We've no reason to turn to him at this point, maybe we could have played him out wide whilst we were short there, but not ideal? Now if we had someone of Loader's outstanding quality in midfield or defence of the Academy, there'd be serious questions about why they haven't had a chance.

Should definitely feature before the end of the season at some point though... FA Cup maybe.

Loader hasn’t been happy for a while now. If he doesn’t get a chance soon then we may well lose him on the cheap; and if so it makes a mockery of our academy when we have such a talent and we don’t utilise him but instead continue with a misfiring League 2 striker (who may or may not be able to step up, but he hasn’t exactly done a lot to justify not trying Loader out).

Doesn’t mean he’d play in their first team. Might well go and sit in their academies and get the occasional first team outing or loan arrangement.

And if Reading thought him good enough for the first team here he’d play in the first team here so they obviously don’t think he’s ready to play - yet.

Personally l’d at least give him more time on the bench but then you have to weigh that against him actually getting full matches for the U21s. Best thing for all would probably be a January loan to a Division 3/4 club but I haven’t heard of there being any interest and if there was would he get regular starts?

And if he is out of contract in the summer then surely Reading will be in negotiation with him over a new deal so all this is hopefully not much more than agents bargaining.

You have to draw comparison with Dom Samuels a few seasons back, he was getting the same frenzied calls all over social media for a call up. in fact he did get in our side , scoring two goals, but his record at this level wasn`t great. 72 apps with 19 goals, 17 of them were at Championship level with just TWO goals. all the rest were L1 or lower.

Scoring goals hasn't been our issue, hard for Clement just to shoehorn Loader in our starting line up when our attacking players are doing a good job. It was however scandalous that he didn't start our Carabao Cup games, perfect time to include him. He should 100% be in our match day squads.

McNulty simply has to go in January. Ship him out on loan to a League 1 team and be done with it.

Just because one academy lad was over rated, doesn't mean they all will be.

I can see the argument for sticking with Bod/Meite/McNulty/Baldock. in our current situation but the fact is, if we do that then Loader will be a goner to the first team that asks him if he'd like a try at a higher level.

From what I've seen thats a big risk on a very talented player. He has been head and shoulders above the other players when I watched the academy games

Underwhelming signing, £5m wasn’t it? Not a particularly good return so far. But he at least offers something different though to what was at the club before and perhaps if it was a settled lineup that didn’t give away goals like sweeties at a trick or treat convention there’d be more confidence about the team overall and therefore slightly less pressure on him to get it right every time (which he won’t as otherwise he’d be in the PL not Division 2).

Baldock and Barrow are in poor form. The manager clearly doesn't fancy Barrow and if that's the case then let's get him out. He played a crucial part in keeping us up last season but it looks like he's a different player this season.

1 in 3 is the standard for a good second striker, equals 15 goals in a season. Anything below 1 in 3 is outstanding.
