Will these games be played at a later date or are the points being awarded to the opposition? I really do feel for Bury. Great season last season only to have all that optimism destroyed by their ownership and financial issues.

Bolton’s game at Wycombe goes ahead today. 1800 Bolton fans travelling down to watch around 5 pro’s and the rest kids turn out for their first team.

If someone wants to pay exorbitant amounts to me for my services and I then use the funds to overpay for anything I want or gamble it away, is that the fault of the source of my funds or is it my own fault for mismanaging ?

I'm not sure you can blame many of those for Bury's plight - this mainly falls down to a guy deciding to takeover the club and buying it for a quid without going through the usual EFL processes. As it turned out he simply doesn't have the funds to ensure Bury can be run in what is a very competitive part of the country. The EFL have tried to help Bury throughout this, when they could have simply kicked the club out once it was clear the owner had circumvented their rules.

That is not to say that those you list are blameless for the plight of some clubs as it is the lure of the swathes of cash at the top of the game which see owners put the future of clubs in danger.

Bury will sadly probably go to the wall but they won't be the first and not the last to do so.

Indeed, it was generalisation of the current plights (and plights to come) of some clubs.

It would be too easy to suggest that none of this stuff used happen before the days of Sky et-all....but then the irony of this Bury situation would be lost on me....bearing in mind its Accrington they were supposedly playing

That's a good one, though.

In almost every other walk of life, due diligence is performed on the company being bought. The vendor will want to see proof of funds, but if the price is £1 then I can't see that being a difficult hurdle to clear.

The fact that there is a 'right and proper' test for football club owners is a bit like the fact that opening a bank account for a normal, law abiding citizen is seriously difficult. The criminals, however, will have all their (fake) documents aligned to make the process as smooth as possible.

I certainly don't have the answer - not sure there is a 'one size fits all' answer anyway.

Ultimately, maybe not in Bury's case, the problem is not trying to buy success, it's the failure once a club has tried. Reality bites.

I guess it would be the former? Not too sure though.

The former - you'd just have one team relegated this season rather than two.

As an aside and not 'financial crisis', Man City's paltry £315k fine for tapping up academy players is laughable.
