So does anyone think that the utterly ridiculous idea to revamp the Champions League is going to happen then?

For those the don’t know the plan is to increase the numbers from 32 to 48, auto qualification for the next season’s groups for all teams reaching the semis and then doing away with the last 16 for yet another group stage and therefore yet more games with even a suggestion of Saturday games to fit the fixtures in.

Part of UEFA's push to make the Europa League more high profile (though it already is outside of England) - not only getting a CL spot but standing a good chance of getting a favourable draw as well - though if Chelsea do get Real, Inter and Leipzig then any favour is long gone.

How does Chelsea get into pot 1 ahead of Real Madrid?

Pot 1 is now holders of the CL and Europa League titles, plus the winners of the six highest ranked leagues in Europe, which is why Zenit are in there, despite being ranked below all but Ajax and Benfica in Pot B.

I think a top seeding for the Europa League winners is a bit silly, although changing that would just promote Benfica as Portugal is the next highest ranked country in UEFA.

Benfica, Dinamo Zagreb and Lille looks to be the best available draw for top seeds.
