13 Aug 2019 21:39Seems like madness to me. Not surprised that the PL are dead against it. Didn’t the CL have 2 group stages a while ago?Sutekh wrote:So does anyone think that the utterly ridiculous idea to revamp the Champions League is going to happen then?
For those the don’t know the plan is to increase the numbers from 32 to 48, auto qualification for the next season’s groups for all teams reaching the semis and then doing away with the last 16 for yet another group stage and therefore yet more games with even a suggestion of Saturday games to fit the fixtures in.
PL are apparently dead against it.
Inter in pot 3 are to be avoided IMO. They are tipped to push hard for the title in Italy this year.Pot one: Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona, Manchester City, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Paris St-Germain, Zenit St Petersburg
Pot two: Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, Shakhtar Donetsk, Tottenham, Ajax, Benfica
Pot three: Lyon, Bayer Leverkusen, Salzburg, Olympiakos, Club Bruges, Valencia, Inter Milan, Dinamo Zagreb
Pot four: Lokomotiv Moscow, Genk, Galatasaray, RB Leipzig, Slavia Prague, Red Star Belgrade, Atalanta, Lille
Is there a special reason why Zenit are in pot 1?Winston Biscuit wrote:Champions League draw at 6:00pm

I would like to see Dortmund get either Liverpool or Man City. Reckon those could be cracking games.
A group with Real, Inter and Leipzig would be the one any of the seeds would hope to avoid.Winston Biscuit wrote:Champions League draw at 6:00pm

Part of UEFA's push to make the Europa League more high profile (though it already is outside of England) - not only getting a CL spot but standing a good chance of getting a favourable draw as well - though if Chelsea do get Real, Inter and Leipzig then any favour is long gone.Sutekh wrote:that is justStranded wrote:Europa League Champions.Sutekh wrote:How does Chelsea get into pot 1 ahead of Real Madrid?
Pot 1 is now holders of the CL and Europa League titles, plus the winners of the six highest ranked leagues in Europe, which is why Zenit are in there, despite being ranked below all but Ajax and Benfica in Pot B.Sutekh wrote:How does Chelsea get into pot 1 ahead of Real Madrid?
