Percy was a tank with a really crap first touch - just like Yakou.

Yakou undoubtedly has more pace and he's good when he has a bit of space coming on from the right wing onto his left foot.

Percy had a thunderous shot and would muscle people out with power not pace - a true 1970s centre forward.

Very different players - and although Yakou has improved enormously this season I think he has found his level. Oh, and his brother is a gent - especially after our little chat in the Lower West a couple of seasons ago.

Photo is from the game against Bradford City in March 73. During this game, Percy hit the junction of the post and crossbar at the Town end and the ball went over the Norfolk Road turnstiles - and I am not talking I-was-there-when-Friday-scored. He was very much a blunt object, but the Reading fans loved him. On his day, he was unplayable. In other words, a 20th century version of Meite.

Two very different worlds, Percy left as he could earn better money scaffolding, Meite shouldn’t ever have to worry about the pecunies.
I think Meite earns more in a week than Percy earnt in his Reading career.

That rings a bell, and for some reason, (his?) bricklaying also does....always remember him scoring a 30/40 yard screamer....the Evening Post went mad featuring it for weeks.

Percy, in his other life, actually built part of our house extension, including some garden walling, which he happily stress-tested by belting footballs at it! I believe it's still standing - hopefully he is too!

Sadly, the wall has possibly fared better than Percy, he died January 2016
