You have Aruruna down twice on that list.

There you go then 23 with a first team appearance still stuffed.

Probably why we are trying to get rid of McNulty and Puscas. So we can sign a left back + Kadeem Harris. We could turn around and say to the EFL we've got long term injuries in our squad so we should be allowed temporary loans to cover those absences

Melvin-Lambert is out on loan so doesn't that technically mean we have 22? Hence why Kadeem Harris is on trial and if we loan a few more of the youngsters out surely that should free us space to bring in a few players within the £8.5k/week limit on 1 year deals.

Apparently anyone we loan out is still included in our own squad numbers.

Absolutely wonderful to see. No coincidence that they should drop points when Harry Arter was not in the squad though...

Fair dos, he made the difference in the 13 games he played in last season. W3 D3 L7, 9 goals scored by Forest.

After tonight we have at least 29 players who have made a first team appearance and so either the EFL are not after all applying the "player of professional standing" rule in our case - or Pauno has gone mad and decided to sabotage any chance of us making any external signings this season.

Time will tell.

There's a few options really.

1) the FL aren't moving on 1 game so we might as well use our squad as much as possible, with the idea we'll be in enough of a better position next season to be out of embargo so it doesn't matter

2) It's as of season start, so caps now don't matter.

3) it's the slightly more favourable version involving 5 appearances.

4) we've negotiated some sort of relaxation based on injuries and the positive side of developing youth players to not count all of them

That would seem more plausible

The rules say one appearance in league or either major cup. The only appearances that don’t count are ones in the EFL trophy - which we are not part of. If you want to read the rules in full they are attached to the EFL statement in regard to the Derby Chorley game as I have said before.

1/ is possible but if so why are the club making noises about trying to sign external players. 2/ definitely not the case as rules say any appearance in league or two cups counts. 3/ definitely not the case as the one game rule applies and the 5 game rule is secondary and only at the discretion of the EFL. So let’s hope your 4/ is the correct one. That would seem a fair approach.

If one appearance makes you professional - there must be so many 19 year old professional footballers working at supermarkets stacking shelves right now.

I wouldn't think many 18 year old who are released and can't find a club so have to stack shelves are capped.
