For what seems like the 100th time - why on earth can't we find some flexibility to host FA Cup semi-finals between Northern teams at Northern/Midlands football grounds? Surely one of OT, St James Park or Villa Park would be available for the Liverpool v City game? And this time around fans need to find their way to Wembley without direct trains, owing to engineering work over Easter.

The sponsors would have been dishing out freebie tickets for months to people who are way more important to regular supporters for a Wembley semi. Essentially that is what it will come down to I reckon, rich people being inconvenienced.

Was only reading about Paul Simpson at Carlisle a few days ago

Took over in Feb when they were 2nd from bottom. Now 12 points out of the relegation zone after 5 wins in the last 6 games. Bit of a Carlisle legend apparently but can only take on the manager job on a temp basis due to health reasons (has been having cancer treatment for the past year)

Carlisle-born, but only played for them at the end of his career when he also took the managerial reins, led the club to back to back promotions to League One. Was manager of England U20s when we won the U20 World Cup in 2017.

Wembly has more than doube the capacity of Villa Park. It's actually a big chance for many fans to see their team play at Wembley - and there are far more tickets available to actual fans for a s-f than a final, due to the way final tickets are distributed.

Ipswich’s progression under McKenna has been very impressive: 7 goals conceded in 17 games - only losing two in the process

Would think they’ll be strong contenders for promotion next season if they don’t hit the top 6 this season - although it looks like they may have left it too late. Current points projection for 6th spot is 81 points!

They had a pretty big overhaul in their squad over the summer so I can't say I'm too surprised it's ended up clicking. Play Offs might be a bit out of their reach this season but certainly next season I'd expect them to get somewhere near if they can add a couple more players to their ranks.

This is quite cool.

Port Vale become the only team in the top 4 leagues to have beaten the other 91 teams in the current Football League.

I don't know why but I have always had a little bit of a soft spot for them. It might stem from the infamous game where they beat us at home under Terry Bullivant. Their players were dishing out beers to the home supporters as they were getting on the team coach after the game.

Well that's a rather lovely stat.

Interesting* looking at the badges together at how many clubs currently showcase their established date. Quite a few seem to have ditched them over the years or, like us, added them in later incarnations. Usual LOL at MK Dons opting for roman numerals, and you wonder why Stevenage bothered. Few clubs I hadn't realised where quite so old. Crawley Town.

I don't think there can ever have been such a capitulation in form/morale/ability to do the simple things as when Liverpool lost that long unbeaten home league run last season. It's the oddest thing to look at, statistically. They went unbeaten at Anfield for 68 games, and then lost six in a row (scoring just one goal), and since then are unbeaten in another 19 home games. Was an astonishing collapse.

Next two domestic games they now play are against City - at the Etihad in the league, and then at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final. Both teams playing CL QFs around these fixtures.

Reminds me a little bit of our collapse of our home form in 2008/09, home form started off as 12 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss before going 17 straight home games without a win (10 months nearly). Obviously the crowd at Anfield play a huge part which was missing last season

Squad depth very strong at the moment, even with 9 subs, Origi, Minamino, Elliot and Keita were all missing on Saturday

Seen bits and pieces of LFC recently and they are not playing well* but managing to grind out results

*in the games I saw
