Hendo South Coast Royal Don't be so bloody daft-it was an acceptable turn of phrase at a men's match.
As the other poster said, is there anything worse than people getting offended on behalf of others who might well not have been offended in the first place.?
Don’t agree at all. “It’s a mens game again, all of a sudden” is a way of saying “thank god the womens football is over and all the focus can now be on the properly on the mens game.”
As for getting offended on other peoples behalf, in the link I provided, there are 2 former international women footballers critiquing his response, so maybe they’re offended. I also never said I was offended, just merely pointed out it was a very tone deaf thing to say so soon after an amazing achievement.
I really do think that you missed the point.
Referees are allowing many more minor challenges this season in a stated intent to keep the game moving, i.e. in keeping with the physical game that most fans prefer, known as a real man's game with tackles a-plenty.
So it was a comment about the game itself rather than anything to do with gender.
As for Souness being a dinosaur, I have to say that his wealth of experienced gained in a very successful playing career and a reasonable management career plus that other rarity of a British player having played in a top league abroad makes him IMHO a pundit worth listening to.
If you prefer the likes of Joe Cole, Ashley Cole, Anton Ferdinand et al who can barely put two words together let alone having no management experience, the comedy acts of Ian Wright or Richards or the inane ramblings of Shearer then so be it-I'll continue to listen to what the "dinoasaur" says because, unlike with the others, he is worth listening to.
