Royal Rother Anyway, setting aside all the pathetic celebrations and shenanigans, I thought Chelsea looked really good.

Need a striker badly, but don't think Aubameyang is the answer though.

We’re Chelsea good or Spurs bad/playing for a point?

Spurs are good under Conte. Why did they look poor against Chelsea?

Chelsea were very good.

URZZZZ I’m sure Cooper must have something on refs, from the Swansea days where they got a soft penalty every week, to the playoff final last season, to today

Apart from his dad being one?

Not sure there's a great deal to talk about. Anderson with enough shithousery to get a young hot head to bite. No arguments on the red

URZZZZ Really odd from Klopp starting Phillips today. Could probably add Milner to that too

Bench is incredibly weak at the moment…I wonder if there’s any regret on Klopp’s part in not retaining the likes of Origi and Minamino, two squad players who made an impact last year

Not a position they wanted to be in, already playing catch up to City

Matip and Konate are injured and Klopp has said that he will be very careful with Gomez.

Last night was one of those performances that happen sometimes with Liverpool when they come up against a packed defence.
City have the likes of Gundogan, Silva, Mahrez and Foden to unlock defences whereas Liverpool depend very much on their power play and lack guile when Thiago doesn't play.

We haven't seen the best of Keita so without Thiago they lack that bit of creativity-in time Elliott (who played well last night) and Carvalho might bring that to the team but that might take a couple of years.
I would like to have seen them try to bring in Isco who IMHO would have been a good fit and maybe Leicester might sell Tielemans.

What a totally tone deaf comment from a football dinosaur. Wouldn't be surprised to see him given a lengthy "break" from Sky Sports

Don't be so bloody daft-it was an acceptable turn of phrase at a men's match.
As the other poster said, is there anything worse than people getting offended on behalf of others who might well not have been offended in the first place.?

Don’t agree at all. “It’s a mens game again, all of a sudden” is a way of saying “thank god the womens football is over and all the focus can now be on the properly on the mens game.”

As for getting offended on other peoples behalf, in the link I provided, there are 2 former international women footballers critiquing his response, so maybe they’re offended. I also never said I was offended, just merely pointed out it was a very tone deaf thing to say so soon after an amazing achievement.

I really do think that you missed the point.
Referees are allowing many more minor challenges this season in a stated intent to keep the game moving, i.e. in keeping with the physical game that most fans prefer, known as a real man's game with tackles a-plenty.
So it was a comment about the game itself rather than anything to do with gender.

As for Souness being a dinosaur, I have to say that his wealth of experienced gained in a very successful playing career and a reasonable management career plus that other rarity of a British player having played in a top league abroad makes him IMHO a pundit worth listening to.
If you prefer the likes of Joe Cole, Ashley Cole, Anton Ferdinand et al who can barely put two words together let alone having no management experience, the comedy acts of Ian Wright or Richards or the inane ramblings of Shearer then so be it-I'll continue to listen to what the "dinoasaur" says because, unlike with the others, he is worth listening to.

Not a chance any of the other clubs keep up with City. So yeah, a title race done after eight days. Great.

Really? You love to see it?
Only alternative is City and they encapsulate everything that’s wrong with modern football, their style is so dull and their fans are awful

Wouldn’t say it’s done at all

Let’s not forget that City were if I recall correctly, 10 points ahead of Liverpool at one point last season and look how close it ended

Not been a particularly tough start for City playing an injury threatened West Ham (in which they only had 2 shots on target) and newly promoted Bournemouth

Their style is so dull?

Wow! I know it takes all sorts but that's a really hard one to get the head around.

Each to their own but I’m not sure how it can be enjoyable watching one team just pass it around the pitch all game with the other team having no intention to engage. Their games against teams like Liverpool are usually a great spectacle because they attempt to go toe to toe with City and it isn’t just a case of watching an exhibition match

Course, you could argue it’s more to how the other team sets up rather than City themselves, but for most games there’s such a huge gulf in quality that it isn’t worth it

First two games, 75 and 67% possession respectively

Graeme Souness does not regret 'man's game' comment on Sky Sports

Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness says he does not regret describing football as "a man's game" after Chelsea's fiery 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

His comments drew criticism from Chelsea striker and Euro 2022 winner Beth England and ex-England international Eniola Aluko.

Souness was analysing the physical nature of the game and referee Anthony Taylor's approach.

"It's a man's game all of a sudden again," Souness said on Sunday.

"I think we've got our football back, as I would enjoy football - men at it, blow for blow, and the referee letting them get on with it."

Indeed.

"It's a man's game all of a sudden again,"

It's this bit that crossed the line. It was to suggest that the men had taken their game back from those pesky (successful) women.
