Winston Biscuit Darwin Nunez looks like he has never seen a football before

Will revisit this posting later in the season just out of interest.

To be fair - it was a dreadful decision not to slip Salah in at the end. Likewise Salah not squaring it to Jota (just before City’s disallowed goal too). Obviously a bit moot given they won but usually in games of this magnitude, the game comes down to fine margins and you have to be taking those sort of chances

Thought Pep got it wrong. Tried to over-think the game and it backfired, just like it did with the CL final loss. Given the respective forms of both teams, he won’t get much more of a better chance to win at Anfield (with the crowds)

Liverpool’s last home league defeat in front of a crowd was the 23 April 2017. Remarkable

I think even I could manage better than Pep in the big games

The first eleven players that turn up get the shirt and just play like they normally do

If there is one criticism about City - they seem to play at one pace. Usually, it's enough to break down most teams, but not in this case. I don't think City played poorly yesterday, far from it actually, they created a few decent openings and had their fair share of opportunities and maybe, on another day, that decision with their goal might have gone in their favour, but nothing changed. Liverpool dealt with what they threw at them, which isn't unsurprising given the defensive quality within their team as well.

They played the same way from essentially the 10th (or so) minute right the way through until the end. It's easy to look and say personnel could have changed, it could but they needed to step the tempo up. They've always been patient in their build up, probing, not panicking etc but they never seemed to change gears during the game, they were just playing the same way throughout. They didn't seem to throw the proverbial kitchen sink at Liverpool really. They had stages where they were on top and creating and looking dangerous, but I thought they could have used something different towards the last 10 minutes plus injury time to try and change the game.

I think that yesterdays performance was defined by De Bruyne and Cancelo, both of whom seemed miles off the mark.

I thought they were ok when City were on top and they had the ball, De Bruyne did play a couple of nice balls for Haaland and Foden on that side, especially in the first half, but agree in the main that they were pretty off it/not involved enough in the game.

Not sure what the 'keeper is doing, but regardless, this is a sweet hit.

Hendo Not sure what the 'keeper is doing

Looking at the reactions of the number 3 and the defender who had chased back I don't think this is the first time its happened.

The overall stat is just such an odd one. Liverpool went 68 home league games without defeat. Then they lost six in a row. And then since the last of those in March 2021, they have now gone another 28 league games unbeaten at Anfield.

Criticism of City rather discredits a much Liverpool performance. Better pressing in midfield, more disciplined at full-back, and Salah back in the middle (and surely now he stays there!?!). Joe Gomez also had what was probably the best game of his life.

It wasn't to discredit Liverpool, they performed well and dealt with everything City threw at them. I'm sure I mentioned it above, City didn't play poorly in the main, they were dangerous, kept probing and had a couple of good chances, but they just played the same way, at the same pace. Liverpool played well themselves and arguably deserved the win.

I think Salah has been playing too far out wide a lot this season, instead of looking to run in behind between LCB and full back, he's been hugging the touchline too much this season and is looking to come inside in front of the defence, rather than looking to penetrate the defence. If Liverpool can get him running from out to in more often, but in behind the opposition's defence, then he will score a lot more goals.

I think to criticise City is a bit naff.
This is a team that will be champions again playing the way that they do.

Yesterday they lost by the odd goal away to one of the best teams in the word to show that (despite what the media say) they are not infallible.
A very enjoyable game and Liverpool proved to be great value at 11/4, a price I guess was the biggest that they have ever been for a home game.

Every team can improve though despite where they finish and what they do. I'm not disagreeing with the opinion of, they will win the league again and have done playing the way they do, but they've still got room for improvement in that department of needing to change things when things aren't quite working.

Look at the Villa game at the end of last season, changed the tempo of their play to get a goal which changed the game and ultimately won them the league. They didn't change what they were doing against Real Madrid, they didn't manage the game correctly, they eventually lost the tie.

Gomez perhaps starting to fulfil potential he was showing before his injury catalogue was opened? Think he should be considered by a Southgate again at some point if he can stay fit, though the WC is probably way too early unless there’s a defensive injury catastrophe ahead amongst the current faces.

But for injuries, Gomez would have won 100 caps. Quick, great with the ball at his feet, and strong in the air. Agree that the World Cup is too soon, and Southgate has his favourites anyway, but I'd be amazed if, assuming he stays fit, Gomez doesn't establish himself in the team again next year.

There is a "defensive (injury) catastrophe"-he's called Maguire.
