Stranded Quite like how Serie A doesn't relegate based on anything other than points. So same points, play-off time.

Its a new thing they have introduced from this season. Both the title and relegation will go to play offs if teams are level on points. Apart from if 3 teams are level on points for relegation where they use a mini league system and the team highest on that doesn't go into the play offs. It was something they had back in Serie up to 04-05 but scrapped it.

Not the biggest fan of it personally. Feels like trying to create more drama just for the sake of drama. Plus obviously it means teams are being split in the same league table using different methods, which just seems like nonsensical silliness.

See the reservation but I like it - I don't think it really matters if 14th and 15th are split on GD but relegation rivals aren't as finishing midtable has no impact. Yes it adds additional drama but you could always argue that relegating on GD could see a single result magnified over the season. For example, there are only 3 goals between them (both scored 31, Spezia let in 3 less) in this situation you could feasibly end up in a situation where say Verona had a player sent off in one game, which they lose 4-0 as a result - red card is then overturned.

My issue around the splitting by different methods thing is probably more at the other end of the table. Champions League qualification is decided by H2H, but 1st & 2nd are not. Just seems a bit silly to me. Also if 3 teams end on the same relegation points, then 1 of those teams is saved by H2H but the other 2 are not (which happened in 04-05) . which also just seems a silly way to do things.

But then I am basing my argument on an 'all things must be equal' basis, which I usually argue against, so maybe I am the one being silly here tbf. Top level sport is there for entertainment, and if its decided people will be more entertained by having play offs then why not?! I freakin love the EFL play offs!

Hamburg score early in the play off 2nd leg. They lost 3-0 in the first leg. Atmosphere looks nuts. It's on Sky Sports.

Victor Osimhen is the first African player to win the Serie A golden boot.

26 league goals and he doesn't take pens for Napoli. I wonder how that compares to other top goalscorers around when you take their pen numbers out

Haaland got 28 goals this season if you exclude penalties.

Andy Cole didn't take penalties - just one of his 187 PL goals was from the spot, which is second all-time to Shearer's 205 (55 penalties in his total 260).

Les Ferdinand never scored a PL penalty. And Dwight Yorke only got six, which makes the Cole-Yorke partnership record even more astonishing (did Cantona take them?).

Crouch got 108 PL goals without a penalty.

Probably the best penalty stat though, Mark Noble scored 47 goals for West Ham, and 28 of them were from the penalty spot.

Lovely stuff. Interestingly* Crouch did take a cracking penalty for England against Jamaica.

From Despair To Where? Who cares if it was a light shove, the fan shouldn't have been there in the first place and there was a line of stewards standing there doing fcuk all.

https://www.sudouest.fr/sport/football/girondins-de-bordeaux/video-bordeaux-rodez-les-images-du-joueur-ruthenois-bouscule-par-un-supporter-girondin-15427744.php

A bit of a tricky one for the French League.

Normally you'd expect the game to be awarded by default to the away team, Rodez.

The problem is, if they do that, the three points gained by them will take them out of the relegation zone, and relegate Annecy, currently two points ahead.

A replayed game, on the other hand, would see Bordeaux knowing exactly what they have to do to go up, although they would need a five goal win.

Was played at a neutral venue: Sassuolo's ground in Reggio Emilia.
Looked as if the supporters were housed at either end with the middle sections mostly empty?

Watched first half from 1-1.

Verona led 1-3 by h/t but later had a man sent-off - mid-way thru 2nd period - and stats (possession/chances) suggest they were really hanging on 2nd half.

Chelsea loanee Ethan Ampadu, reportedly with his first goal in senior football for Spezia, levelled at 1-1 on 15' - screamer into top corner -Hellas had led after 5' thru Faraoni - who got the later Red Card. Twittering likening his dismissal to a 'Suarez' handball on the line and the resultant pen was saved!

A brace from Cyril Ngonge before the break - the 2nd went in off Ampadu - but to give it as an 'og' would have been bit harsh on both players.

Wish I'd kept at it and watched the 2nd period now.... but dutifully handed remote to better half - and at least she didn't switch over to something with Nicola Walker in

Wondered what had happened to them, didn't realise they'd sunk into the third tier!

Las Palmas Vs Girona is the fixture with the furthest distance between sides in the top 5 leagues next season. 2,200km between them.

I watched it in Cyprus with a few lads from Newcastle

Has to be one of the absolute worst penalty decisions I've ever seen
