Hound Yep but doubt Brighton council spent 20m doing the place up just before the football team moved in

And parking horrendous there as it is. Can’t imagine for one minute it’d be considered

Well what do they do for parking now? it has a capacity of 790 that gets filled on the regional athletic events.

And yeah for sure you think RBC would turn down a revenue stream to try and pay some back towards the investment they’ve just put in? I think they would bite our hands off for a year round revenue usage of the facility with a constant revenue stream.

You can dismiss it all you want but it would be a good option for the club in the early years. And like I said it already has the public transport infrastructure being on the 17 bus route and 20 min walk from the train station.

I think the revenue from a Sunday League team would be revenue they’d do without with all the nonsense that came with it. Don’t think the gym membership folk would be delighted with 500 pissed footy fans around the place on a Saturday afternoon

How often are these 780 capacity athletic events? I can’t say I’ve heard of many of them

Reading city would be the only viable I’d have thought. It’s crumbling but has some sort of stadium. It’s a bit of a hole down there and prone to flooding mind you

Jump ship....become a plastic Real Madrid fan. Then look down my nose at Liverpool, United, Chelsea, City etc fans round here who have taken the piss and mock them in a Zidane shirt whilst quoting the number of CLs

Mind you Caversham Town look appealing, they have a superb kit.

Mind you even Ascot United get to Wembley nowadays.

Pepe the Horseman
Winston Biscuit Step 1 - Get rid of our dump of a stadium and find a small one with character. Rename it the Biscuit Tin.

I think we should have a poll. I'd call it the coconut ring

Could convert palmer park quite easily I reckon

How? Barely any parking, a brand new leisure centre, surrounded by busy roads

Unless your total ambition is a couple of hundred inside the running track stadium

Eh? How many people do you reckon will be turning up to watch us play Sunday league football? And it’s on the 17 bus route and 20 minute walk from earley station. And there is plenty of room on the other side of seats to put some temporary stands up. Think Withdean stadium

When afc Wimbledon reformed they played at Kingsmeadow in Kingston on Thames which had a capacity of 1000. Palmer park capacity is 780 seats. You could even just have standing around the other three sides. Would be plenty big enough for our needs when starting out

Kingsmeadow has barely changed (one new stand at one end) since when AFC Wimbledon started out there. They averaged over 3000 in their first season.

If we ended up playing somewhere like Palmer Park or Scours Lane, we could wave goodbye to league football for a very long time.

While we are in the realms of things that aren't going to happen, I'd like our imaginary new benevolent rich owner to buy up the land where the cattle market is, and give us a town centre ground.

Would also point out Kingston is quite a way from Wimbledon

Maidenhead would prob be tbe best bet if we started say tier 7 unless I’m forgetting a closer team with a small stadium

Maidenhead could work.

Decent train connections, some ok pubs nearby or at least in the tiny town centre, tidy little ground.

AndyRFC spotteds a on a regular basis would also be good.

I kinda want us to go out of business so this idea can come to fruition.

On Strings Would you want one?
What would we call it?
Realistically where would we play?
Would you help fund getting it off the ground?
Are #SellBeforeWeDai considering it as a possibility and looking into it?
Would you want to retain the blue and white hoops image or opt for a change in colours?

Yes
AFC Reading
Groundshare with Reading Town/Maidenhead Utd
Yes but it depends
Probably too soon for all that, But it is something STAR should always have emergency plans for and review every year.
Keep Blue and White hoops

In time, the FA allow pheonix clubs to inherit the past records/legacy of the club they were born from. I think even AFC Wimbledon got this, even though MK Dons are still around, so you want the pheonix club to have a similar identity with regards to Kit etc.

Could he/she/they/other not just offer Dai Yonge some imaginary cash now and buy the existing club and assets and pay the tax man?

I think a new club would really struggle to keep support if it was out of the town for too long. Maybe it could be OK as a temporary measure, but it would be easy to lose the connection to the town if it wasn't there.

AFC Scarborough are thriving - back in the borough in their own ground, after spending the first 10 years of their life playing in Bridlington.

I fear that you're being far too forward-thinking and optimistic here.

They certainly *should* have, and their constitution as an IPS means they're legally setup for just that, but I'd be very surprised if they are thinking along such lines.

Here's a crazy idea which I doubt has ever been done before - start a pheonix club anyway and it'll give us all a second club to support in the lower leagues, might even get lucky and get a cup draw against our "parent" club.

I'll add this to my business plan for when I win the Euro Lottery jackpot and buy Reading FC.

Forbury Lion AFC Reading

There are few potential names I'd hate more than AFC Reading.

Yeah but apart from those and maybe a few others, it's never been done, at least not with Reading.
