Winston Biscuit Sandro Tonali banned for the remainder of the season

I said it at the time of Toney's ban and I will say it again, these bans are a completely wasted opportunity. Tonali and those like him who have gambling addictions should be made to visit schools, colleges and uni's in the UK and in Italy to warn of the dangers of betting. Guys like him and Ivan Toney can really make a difference to the youth of today, they will be listened to. Rather than the ban on playing give them some community service instead along with making them commit to attending a full gambling addiction programme to get help. 6 months "community service" alongside their regular football activities is more than enough for a first offence.

Of course if there are repeat incidents then playing bans are probably appropriate.

For me playing bans should be reserved for match fixing in order to win bets, that is a far more serious offence and imo no doubt happens.

He is attending therapy/rehab alongside his football ban.

However, I agree there should be some form of community service within the academy set-up.

I just think about what the biggest cause of turning to gambling could be for a footballer and it is probably boredom. Sitting on the coach for hours, sitting on the plane for hours. You have to fill the time somehow. If the punishment for footballers is to sit at home for 10 months doing very little it will only help to serve their gambling urge.

This is very cool. Spurs have become the first team to introduce 'legacy numbers' on shirts - have been used in cricket for years, every player is assigned a unique number in the club's history based on when they made their debut.

something I have said for ages the england team should be doing.

Fair play to Spurs. Can see others adopting it and it becoming quite common place soon enough

Yeah, surprised that England haven't already look to do it.

As you say, can imagine it being quite commonplace soon. Probably more-so amongst the bigger clubs that have kept better records in the early years. Unless you just pick a date and go from there.

just seen more deets - its an 18 month ban but he will only need to serve 8 months of it on the condition he does 8 months therapy and
16 public appearances at amateur clubs, training centres & charities dealing with gambling addiction

If he completes all that by the start of next season then he can play again. If not then he is banned until the start of the 25/26 season

Apparently he referred to Onana as being a gorilla-the inference being that he was strong but the authorities have leaped on this even though Onana says that he hasn't been offended.

Only 6 Ballon d'Or winners have come from English clubs since it started 67 years ago, and only 2 during the PL era.

La Liga - 24
Serie A - 18

Why have so few winners come from English clubs?

Latterly, I would suggest it’s because there are a large number of serious quality players in the PL which makes it harder to stand out.
Recent history suggests that it’s a little easier to stand out in La Liga or even the MLS

In previous years, despite the dominance of English clubs in european competition in earlier decades, and the competitveness of English leagues, foreign journalists (who vote in the ballon thing) don't rate english football or leagues or players so they only very rarely get a lookin. There is some argument in their favour as until recently British players never really made names for themselves on the continent. Don't get why that hasn't improved in the last 20 years though as more foreign imports have made names in the PL.

But then the whole "competition" is really a subjective load of toss (like the pointless rock and roll halls of fame things). These last 20 years all they've basically done is award the title to either Messi or Ronaldo and stuff anyone else whatever their achievements e.g. Lewandowski and Salah should really have won it but no instead it's the same names just because we're told they're the best players in the world even if their achievements over a year/season might seemingly have been surpassed by others (no doubt they'd still have won in some years even if they were out injured for the season).

This year's award is no more than yet another "sympathy" vote for Messi because he's 55 or something and Argentina won the world cup, yet Haaland is completely ignored. Also, how often do defenders and keepers win the award, always seems to be attack minded players...

Was Owen the last English player to win it in 2001(?) or have Beckham/Lampard/Gerrard or even Kane manage to jam it somehow since?

All that said though, reckon Bellingham will be taking it next year while the PL clubs get "unlucky" again.
