Well was unusual, felt sorry for the utterly soaked spectators.

I hate that sort of penalty run up, the taker should be done for ungentlemanly conduct.

He didn't stutter, he 100% stopped. That should have been ruled out, and I'm supporting Germany.

The handball is harsh, but they've made the law easily and consistently appliable. Clive Tyldesley canpiss his knickers about deliberate all he wants, but we all remember that was a cluster oxf*rd couldn't apply consistently and successfully.

And that offside was super tight, but some always will be.

I said the same recently at one of our home games where someone did it against us and was told players are allowed to do it now.

I don't get the problem, it's always been the same, only now you don’t get linesmen oxf*rd up and ruling out good goals or allowing wrong ones.

We all know the rules and the technology. Them being applied correctly and fairly quickly in one game changes nothing.

It's more of a spirit of the game thing, as nebulous as that might be

I can understand a desire to tweak the rule to allow a margin of error where the onfield decision isn't overturned. And linesmen seem completely redundant for offside now.

But even if you do that you'll still see decisions where there's a milimeter in it, it'll just be whether you're 3 cm and a milimeter for off or 3cm and on.

I would like to see a rule for penalty run ups that you can't slow down once you start. Go at whatever pace you want, slow fast whatever, but you can only go steady or accelerate. Just practice hitting the corners and you don't have to oxf*rd about with your run up.

Noted the comparison to Nunez by the commentary, very apt

Lively and energetic and I don’t think you’d particularly enjoy playing against them but their decision making and composure in the final third is so poor

Snowflake Royal Swiss look a real team. Playing nice football, good in possession, pace down the flanks. Solid defence. Very well organised and drilled. Just looks like Embolo doesn't quite have the quality upfront. But plenty chipping in with goals. One of the higher scoring teams...

Fancied them to beat Italy who, for the third game running were woeful

Real bugbear nowadays that the players almost have no capacity to think for themselves. Time and time again, Italy tried to play it out from the back, time and time again, they lost it, just inviting pressure on yourself

Here’s a thought, change the shape to give your lone striker (against three CB’s) a bit more support. Try a few longer balls over the top, push the Swiss back and give them something to think about. There was only one winner from the start of that game and it’s a damning indictment of where football has gone in recent years that it took so long for the Italians to change it

Winston Biscuit Games gone

Just so very very cr@p and not the way I want to see a game played. Really don't think pulling people up because they have one of their bootlaces or the width of their boot leather offside is at all the spirit of things, really do not care if it's technically correct it's just bollox.

Since 2000, Italy have failed to win a knockout match in 8 of 12 major tournaments. But in all 4 that they did win a knockout match, they reached the final, winning 2 of them - World Cup and Euro's
