January transfer window

by windermereROYAL » 03 Jan 2025 22:32

I feel this needs it`s own thread with the potential of several outgoings and possibly zero coming in.

Rumours circulating tonight is Knibbs to Oxford Portsmouth or Derby.
And unnamed clubs have got their eyes on Sam Smith.
The Bindon story is well covered, but you would expect there to be teams sniffing around Wing Savage and Garcia.

Oh And Chem Campbells last game in his current loan spell is tomorrow if selected.

It`s reality, it needs to be debated, that`s what forums are for, there`s a few other threads saying exactly the same thing, all I`ve done is merged them.

One thing that I think would be positive in this transfer window would be players like CBC and Stickland getting loans out where they can play regular first team football. I would add players like Wareham, Akande and Holzman to that list, but they'll be needed in the first team squad.

I'm sticking to Savage, Wing, Knibbs and Smith going nowhere, because they're in contract, and with the exception of Savage, top L1 players without a lot of scope to improve. They should be priced out of a moveon the basis that they're not worth what they'd cost to a Champ side.

Bindon and Garcia, maybe Craig, possibly even Pereira or CBC are the ones to watch imo. Less time on contract, more room to develop. Higher ceiling, generally.

Agreed, putting them altogether though just really highlights the utterly depressing transfer windows we all get now. Still the one positive, with the current situation, is that we can’t sign another Aluko.

Well this bright idea was a waste of sodding time then.

How important or meaningful is a contract in football? Players seem to break them all the time, and clubs too, presumably for payment or fees of some kind.

Very in terms of what fee you can demand.

And our lot are all pulling together not agitating to leave

Noel Hunt on possibility of January additions:

"If you don't ask, you don’t get. Brian [Carey] is well ahead with that and in discussions. We want to do things right but we have to ask questions. Everyone knows the story; we have to get on with it no matter what"

I think this account just copies what Earnshaw reports in the Chronicle. Pretty sure Hunt also said this on BBCRB.

I reckon we’ll lose Bindon, Craig and Garcia. We should get back Chem and possibly loan back Bindon for the rest of the season.

Is that based on anything, or just copium for Bindon loan back and Craig saying he has a sore a hamstring but no issue on the scan?

Plenty of media rumors regarding Savage and a possible move. Am i right in thinking there was a big sell on clause going back to Man.Utd if we sell Savage, much the same as per Elliot from Chelsea?
If so, is it really worth us selling if we are going to have give 50% i believe back to Utd from any transfer. Surly it would be better to keep him another season and hope he keeps getting better thus a bigger slice of money.
I understand we may have to offload a few players to generate funds but this just doesn't make much sense if this is the case.

Would be amazed if we lost Craig. Can't imagine he's on many teams' radars playing RB all season.

Agreed, if Craig was playing well in his natural midfield position then yes i could see clubs scrambling in for him. He has played decently at RB but not enough to warrant serious interest.

Just resigned to the fact that Bindon will go and I did think Craig might go before the hamstring injury came to light.

I know Craig has been playing out of position all season, but he was getting plenty of plaudits in CM last season. He has lots of potential so thought a Champ club might take a punt on him. I think he can go for free in the summer so the club might listen to a semi decent offer.

Virtually our entire squad can leave in the summer in theory.

I don't think Craig will have caught the eye in the last couple of seasons compared to the rest of the senior midfield. He's the unglamourous one.

Just sounded like you might know something.

I know people hope, but I don't expect Bindon to be loaned back.

Still, 8 days in and no movement yet.

We have Campbell now until the end of the season, that can only be a positive.
And why is January going so slowly?

Complete opposite for me. Can’t believe it’s the 10th already :?

So two thirds of the way through the window and nary a peep, let alone the mass exodus people were predicting.

Not sure it's a good thing, the later someone goes the less time we have to try to argue for and find a replacement, and we do kinda need a decent sized sale to ease the finances.

Quite enjoying that Vic's parting shot before flouncing was that Garcia was definitely off, but 21 days in he's still here without any noise otherwise.
